Holiday reading recommendations? 17:18 - Jul 17 with 3516 viewsRomeo4

Can anybody recommend any good books you've read recently?

I admit to being lazy here but looking to avoid having to trawl amazon for a decent option.

I usually like fiction (crime, spy, horror) but happy to consider other genres if recommended.

thanks.

I read that while on holiday in May, thought it was a damn good read.

The Underground Railroad is very good by Colson Whitehead and has been out for 2 or 3 years now so is probably a decent price.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

The Power of the dog by don winslow is superb. Also, as I wrote it, I would very much recomend this:

If you're lazy then how about this;
Make Your Bed - William McRaven

Dear Leader - Jang Jin-Sung

Fear - Ran Fiennes

Beastie Boys Book - Michael Diamond, Adam Horovitz

Brief Answers to Big Questions - Prof Hawking

Pushing Bourdaries - Derek Pringle

I'm a non-fiction person. These are the best of what' I've consumed recently

Totally not fiction, crime or spy. But I read Shoe Dog, Phil Knight on holiday. The story of the founder of Nike and it is a really good read, if you fancy something different.

Quite like Harlan Coben for crime, any of his are worth a look and some sports related ones in there as well.

If you like horror have you ever tried Adam Nevill? My absolute favourite author, all his books are excellent, real literary horror that get under your skin. I'd probably start with Last Days which is probably his most accessible and would make a good holiday read, or the Ritual (which was made into a pretty decent movie, now on Netflix)

If you like horror AND crime then John Connolly's detective series is fantastic.

Try
the “Station” series by David Downing, starts with Zoo Station, WW2 spy but so much more
Harry Bosch series by Michael Connolly starts with The Black Echo, LA detective, brilliant character
If you like music, Daisy Jones & the Six is excellent
Peter James Roy Grace novels are great - Brighton detective,
George Pelecarnos (who scripted episodes of The Wire) has written some great books, none better than Hard Revolution set in the period immediately before and after the MLK assassination in 1968

Edited to add to the endorsement for Mick Herron and Phillip Kerr, both excellent

Thread revival - just started reading your book, KTBlue. 3 chapters in and I'm very much enjoying it. Straight away it's got me wanting to know what the hell is going on and why one of the characters is like he is. Think I'll have it done by the end of the week!
