Next man up ... 21:52 - Jul 18 with 988 viewspablovian

After last season, it is understandable that some Town fans have developed a tendency to panic early, panic often, and assume the worst. However, we are in a far better situation this season than the chaos that existed at the beginning of last season. Having regained some stability, we can now start to develop resilience. This comes from developing a strong team ethic, with the expectation that when players are injured, the 'next man up' will come in, and the team will continue to function as a team.

In the case of the back four 'crisis', Kenlock and Emmanuel are decent League 1 FB's, Wolfenden did well in League 2 and is ready to step up, Donacien is a versatile 'next man up', Chambers will be back after his one game suspension, and Ndaba looks very promising Although Nsiala's ham string injury is unfortunate, it is not a disaster for a resilient squad.

The fact we have a daily rehash of these posts suggests quite the opposite.

We were a Championship team last season at this point. Until there is a P next to our name everything is a step down from this time last year.

Lambert has a lot to do and needs to show something early. Whether that's right or wrong is irrelevant. Fans may well have played their part in getting us here, but panic or not, it's on Evans and as the weeks go by it becomes on Lambert too. That's just how it is.

I think a defence with any 4 of Donacien/ Emmanuel Ndaba Wolf and Kenlock would see more silly mistakes and gifted goals.

None of them have proved they are good enough even at league 1 level, all have mistakes in them and none have much experience or are talkers to get the less experienced ones through.

More likely Skuse would be played out of position in the back 4 again a position that is relatively new to him .

Would definitely like to see at least a couple of those vacant squad defensive squad numbers filled with capable older head defenders before we get started.

I think we've spent so long in the Championship that some fans haven't quite grasped what League 1 is. Of course our defence will continue to make mistakes but we won't be punished as often, midfielders and strikers will get more chances, the standard of football will be absolute tosh.

But we will be fighting for a place in the play-offs and hopefully having a few cup runs. Looking forward to it.

The fact is, we aren't talking about 18-19 year old kids in the main. Those 'young uns' now need to start stepping up to the mark and showing that their ability isn't just potential. This season provides that perfect platform.
