Not the greatest of starts for him and looked fairly uncomfortable. Nearly chopped on, plumb to a no ball, then as you say nicked off.
Hopefully, he'll look more at home in the 2nd innings but today was a real opportunity to announce his arrival.

Bairstow has the right idea come right out of your crease and negate the seam movement. You can leave a lot of these balls and just wait for the straight one.

Pretty standard England Test match batting of recent times but taking it to the extreme. Bowlers simply looking to hit top of off. Would be nice to see a solid, forward defensive shot with a straight bat...
Bairstow's was a really weird innings. Got it into his head that he needed to bat outside his crease but was doing it to such lengths that the umpires were in his ear after every ball. Can't have helped. | |
