TV and broadband 18:59 - Jul 25 with 1697 views | Herbivore | TWTD hive mind, I've just cancelled my Virgin subscription as the cost was more or less daylight robbery. I was going to go with BT or Sky but then I started wondering about getting a Now TV box or a Fire stick. We get Freeview through an aerial and we mostly watch the old terrestrial channels anyway. I dip in and out of Sky Sports so not worried about having an ongoing subscription for it. What do you guys have and what would you recommend?

I wish someone came remotely close to their speeds. But they basically have a complete monopoly on the top end of the market.

I'm lucky enough to live in a building where we had Hyperoptic installed a couple of years ago. I get a 1 Gig connection that costs me less than I used to pay for very flaky BT broadband. Unfortunately unless you live in a block they're unable to install.

TV and broadband on 20:00 - Jul 25 with 1584 views | Kievthegreat | We're in a similar boat. We're getting shot of Sky and we're looking at using Amazon, Netflix for TV and then going to get our broadband (plus 2 new phones) through EE as the missus gets a bluelight discount with them. We pay an absolute fortune for sky (even without sport) and now that GOT is done, we've done the maths and we can get 4 times faster broadband, add all the internet TV subscriptions and save a small fortune which will go towards a brand new 4k OLED TV (Not sure the missus knows that last bit though). | | | | Login to get fewer ads

What are you downloading that requires speeds in excess of 60mbps? Computer games usually require some large downloads when you first install these days, but even those download pretty quickly and they’re a one time thing. 4K video streaming needs 16mbps. So unless you want to stream four videos at the same time, rop end fibre should be more than enough by a long way.
