Tackle could’ve finished Downes season. Frankly....and I wouldn’t usually say this...I don’t blame him for getting up an nutting the bloke.

Downes was having a decent game by all accounts as well. That’ll be him banned for at least three games if he’s landed a punch / head butt

Shouldn't matter though - why did he rise to it? We've got enough availability issues as it is without him getting suspended.

Do friendlies count?? In terms of red cards and bans into league games

This is a MASSIVE LOSS... as he has had the best pre season of any player

Think it's just a fine for red cards in friendlies, no ban.

Thank some nonexistent deity for that then. Sounds like he'd had a quality game, that aside.

He’s just watched his colleague pick up a really nasty (albeit accidental) that has wiped out his season... and it seems a guy has come with a nasty tackle that could have injured him!

So get up and leave it to the ref - he's not Rambo. Childish, petulant and we'll be fortunate if he isn't punished.

Shame because he came on leaps and bounds last season and seems to be doing the same through pre-season. The only blessing is a red card is better than an injury.

Thought it was a ban for violent conduct even if it is a friendly.

Didn’t realise it was a head butt!

Perhaps there will be some kind of ban, referee report to FA?

Was it full blown or more hand bags, as is heads pushing together

No, he had reason to be angry, and I don't blame him for his heavy handed reaction.

I'm one of the few on this board who's (I assume) still playing regularly, and as a small midfielder who's quick and runs with the ball, I get fouled 3 or 4 times a match, and it can be seriously frustrating to receive tackles which could be ankle breakers sometimes more than once a match, simply because some lump of a centre half can't keep up. I'm not saying I'd ever headbutt or lash out at anyone, but sometimes after the second or third dangerous tackle from the same person, you lose your head and chuck insults at them.

Hence I can understand Downes' reaction, it wasn't right, but he clearly has a short fuse and therefore he obviously wouldn't want to do it again, it's just heat of the moment to a guy who if anything was more in the wrong with that pathetic tackle.

I survived Ipswich 0-0 Burton

It was a proper, full headbutt. Didn't try to disguise at all. Personally found it hard to watch a town player do it tbh
