Correct. You can't.

But when you are about to start the season with TEN players that would be in and around the squad injured then what else should you do?

If we buy these players, then we end up with a massive squad again, which we simply can't do. On what? 2 year, 3 year contracts?

Even if we end up with 5 or 6 loans I have no issue if they are genuinely to address injury problems. A better RB than what we have on loan is fine. Adding another CM on loan is absolutely pointless unless we suffer more injuries.

I don't like it either, but stop holding Lambert to account for what he would ideally like, not necessarily what he can actually have given the budget restraints and injury nightmare.

Getting a bit Corbyn like in that Lambert must not be criticised even if he does what he says he shouldn't do or he does the same as previous managers have been criticised for. We apparently had certain red lines as fans for the managers for things such as 2 defensive midfielders, not having shots on target or matching teams up at home. If PL crosses the red lines we should question him.

There's a lot of knee-jerk moaning on here in reaction to what is, analysed with a cool head, very sensible business by Town.

We can't sign good players on the basis they can play for a month until our injured men return. Nobody in their right mind who has the ambition to play regularly would make that deal.

This isn't FM or Fantasy Football, it's real life.

These are season long loans though, so your injury chat is pretty irrelevant.

We should sign them on loan for a month? Why would their parent club agree to that?

And why not?

If Elliott scores 5 in 5 or Garbutt gets man of the match three games in August, you'd be happy with them going back?

Clubs will want them out for the season. They aren't interested in getting a players wages off the books for a month, then maybe having them around for a few months until they get something else sorted.

It would have to be a minimum half season loan anyway.

This isn't blind faith in Lambert, it's just not giving the club a kicking on every. single. little. thing when actually these moves make perfect sense and improve our squad.

The alternative is we keep Bart, on massive wages compared to the rest of the squad, and he sits on the bench. Clearly Holy is going to be No 1.

You can't sign them for a month but if they are just to cover injuries you could sign them until January

What he was talking about was getting loan players in who blocked the route to the first team for academy products, and they then never got a chance.

Garbutt makes sense as we are lacking a genuine left sided attacking midfield player and he is likely to be available to sign at the end of the season.

Norris makes sense as it allows Wright to be loaned out to get game time which he would not get here.

Elliott makes sense as we do not have anyone else in that position who is fit and going to be challenging for a starting place this season.

Would start to worry if we signed a LB or CB who played ahead of Kenlock/Woolfenden or anyone in central midfield

Bobby Robson - thank you

Every individual decision can be justified, much like last summer, but need to look at the bigger picture and what was being spoken about in the close season

Since Garbutt and Elliot are out of contract next summer then we could pick them up on a free. If they’re any good. It’s not like a CHalobah or a Bree or a Pennington situation where we have no chance of signing them. If they’re crap ... say goodbye. Seems reasonable business. As for the loanee GK... fine by me as he’ll probably be on the bench all season.

And you can't run a sensible forum with a high percentage of doom and gloom experts.

And obviously no one at all is going to get injured during the season.
Because that never happens.

Completely agree. And the loans for Garbutt and Elliott are slightly different, as their contract expires next summer. If they impress, we get them on a free (barring interest from other clubs), if not, they go somewhere else.

We seem to be only getting loans in where it makes sense. Not lie getting Edun in last season. I still expect if we sign a CB this week (fingers crossed) it'll be on a permanent. I still think we've been waiting to get Bart's wages off the books before going for our primary option, with Guthrie and Wilson as cheaper, back up options.
