Heard a rumour we're 'close' to agreeing a deal with Bolton for him. NI international, dunno how much (anything?) we'd be paying. My source is a Bolton supporter and former youth development coach who works in our Brum office and who kindly emailed me today. He's not one for bothering about Ipswich, normally.

He hoped they'd raise some much-needed funds from it. "Phwar" I said as I choked on me cuppa and spat it on the keyboard.

Blimey, I'd take him on a free.... on 19:11 - Aug 5 with 6743 viewsBloots

…..if we were in the National League South.

And we had no forwards.

And he played for free.

To pay actual real money for him would be remarkable.

If Bolton aren't fulfilling his contract would we pay a fee or could we sign him on a free as they're unable to pay him? He is one striker I had an eye on but I can't see us paying a transfer fee on anyone.

I don't know - my work colleague seemed to think some sort of 'compensation' might be offered.

I'd never heard of him frankly. I thought he was one of their U23's who played on Saturday!!

The Bolton players were paid wages on Friday, but he handed in 14 days notice of termination of his contract.

On what basis. He was playing regularly at this level for Charlton a few years back and didn’t pull up any trees did he?

Scored 10 goals in each season for Charlton. He's a better option than Tom Elliott for me not that it's saying a lot.

His scoring record at League One level is one in four. I'm not sure if we'd be able to sign anyone better than that on a free though I agree I wouldn't say a "hell of a" signing.

Hell of a signing on Lamberts shoestring budget.

We need another forward and someone different to Norwood, Jackson and Sears (assuming he comes back in next few months). Would seem to fit the profile of target man that PL has been seeking in pursuing Elliot from Millwall.

A Murphy mark 2 - someone who can chip in a few goals and help get us out of this league.

Thanks - means we might have to play Sunderland and possibly Peterborough before he joins if that's a 14 day notice period?

Yeah, I think he handed in his notice on Saturday, so he should be available from 17th August, presumably in time for the Posh game as he handed in his notice wel before kick off

Thanks again. Might make the bench - I can't see him playing straight away unless (knowing our luck) something happens to Norwood and Jackson. Not sure what kind of pre-season he's had; Bolton have had a sporadic one to say the least, from memory.
