Stupid car related question 10:11 - Aug 7 with 713 viewsclive_baker

From someone who knows absolutely nothing about cars. I've tried to google but cba to read through pages of nonsense. Does it matter what sort of engine oil I stick in? Light came on today, presumably I can just buy whatever they're stocking at Tesco garage?

Your only real problem is to make sure the oil you chose is for cars and does both diesel and petrol engines - or is correct for your type of engine - which it says on the front. You might need a bit more than you think if the light has come on - and that might also indicate an expensive problem looming.

It most definitely matters.

When you buy oil there is a chart which tells you the type of oil you need by car type.

Why bother to go to Tesco garage, just pick up a cheap 2l bottle of sunflower oil next time you're in Tesco's doing your grocery shopping.
