What's the craic with Peterborough trains on Saturday? 19:59 - Aug 12 with 7288 viewstrulyblue

Those rubbish box trains are normally only 2 or 3 carriages long and with 3,000+ tickets sold surely its gonna cause a big problem..... Bring back the football specials.

Is there anywhere to get a pint near Ely station that you would recommend? The Cutter?

That’s certainly the closest. Or The Fountain at the top of Back Hill, which is probably a couple more minutes walk

Crap. I've booked from Norwich... can't remember seeing anything about industrial action. Just looked and they say nothing is running between Norwich and Nottingham but are still booking tickets ????

I'm travelling from Norwich too. Looks like we have to get the Cambridge train which stops at Ely. Change there for Peterborough.

9:58 or 12:01 from Ipswich, if you get there early enough to get a seat will be the best bet. The 8am will be full of numbskulls I would have thought, so best to avoid that one.

Ok if you like a trendy tourist place. It,s been gentryfied over the last year or so and the prises reflect this. How up for a load of football fans dropping in remains to be seen. The weather,s supposed to be cack too.

The Fountain... 5 mins from station... go up Back Lane and on the left at beginning of Silver Street.

I prefer the Prince Albert, a couple of minutes further down Silver Street - a vast collection of speciality beers/ciders/weird local kegs.

Bit of a drastic solution but via London might be the most comfortable way to go.....not sure how the cost compares though?

Cheapest I've seen is 54.50 return, had a look at it earlier.

The thing about going via London is it'll be a nice long train so it'll be a more comfortable journey but then again it'll lack the atmosphere so not the best way of doing it.

However the fact that all the trains from Ipswich to Cambridge (every hour) and Ipswich to Peterborough (every 2 hours) are going to be 3 cars at best, most likely 2 and EMT on strike means that you might be physically unable to board.

I still haven't decided what I'm doing.

Potential relief lads... Read on the Star that GA are "strengthening it's trains on the Ipswich to Peterborough line due to football"

Hope so anyway, otherwise it's breathe in tight for an hour 40

The Cutter isn’t that bad particularly the bar just on the left as you go in, prices are about average too, it’s defo the closest to the station in Ely, there are 3 sets of train that go through Ely that stop at Peterborough however the Cross country ones from Stansted to Birmingham are usually pretty packed by the time they get to Ely, the other service is the Norwich to Liverpool service which would be your best bet if you can get on at Ely

Norwich to Liverpool isn't running.

East Midlands trains are on strike.

Note that Cambridge are playing Colchester and there's a fair sized meeting at Newmarket.
