I know he is injury prone but Will Keane is a good signing 15:02 - Aug 20 with 2882 viewsMaySixth

first thing, and most importantly, he will be a very good League One player

secondly, it's both competition up front plus we don't have to flog Norwood every week

i watched Keane a lot last season and he is definitely up to scratch - let's see if we can keep him fit

If he really is injury prone, it may not be.

Time will tell. If he can at least stay fit until Christmas and Sears returns that will be good.

I don't think anyone doubts he is good enough but I understand the fears over his fitness.

It's a gamble no doubt about it.

A fit Will Keane is a fantastic signing, but as we are all too aware, his fitness record is atrocious.

If we was going to sign him, then why wait till now?

Like surely some sort of preseason would of benefited both party's

I think perhaps we were sniffing around other targets, and perhaps waiting for him to prove his fitness a little. Unlike others, I don’t think we’ve just signed the messiah. I’m sure he’ll do a job and offer a more physical presence up front, but we need a healthy dose or realism here.

Ability wise he is as good a signing as we could hope to make.

Risky is all I'll say on the signing for now.

I've no doubt some will be slating this signing, based on his fitness record. But the logic of this will depend entirely on what kind of deal he is on.

As a player without a current club, it's perfectly possible that Keane has come to us on the basis that we can help get and keep him fit, on a fairly minimal wage, bumped up by appearance and goal bonuses. If it's that or sitting at home, on zero wage, no change of getting fit and potentially seeing his career go down the toilet, this could work out really well for both sides.

Fingers crossed...

I don’t disagree, we need to be realistic about the market we’ve been shopping in and I’m pleased to see him sign. If fit he’ll prove to be a decent L1 forward IMO and certainly a step up from Jackson.

Let's hope that he gets put on his own fitness and training regime specifically tailored to him to try and keep him fit. Like we should've done with McGoldrick (I'm assuming we didn't!)

It's an extremely good gamble to be honest.

It's not a loan, at this level he's an extremely good signing and the reason we have him is his injury record. If we could get 25 to 30 games out of him (this season) - it should be a cracking signing.

Which is - are you as injury prone as our others players, if yes, sign here.

If he's fit and can stay in good shape, he will be as good a striker as there is in this division.

The exciting thing is that we now have several players who arguably fall into that category - Downes, Judge, Edwards, Huws, Norwood, Keane can all be outstanding players in league 1. If we can make sure they are all fit and firing for most of the season, we'll not be far away.

I think he is a great player, but...

I just cant see him going any length of time without getting injured. Id be amazed if he plays more than 15 matches all season.

I pray that I'm wrong though!!

I wonder if it will help that he's not going to be first choice so won't be needed to start every game (which he was last season)?

Hopefully.

I think we’ll be lucky to see lankester before next season. IIRC it was going to be at least 5 months before they then reviewed it to give him a possible return date.

Yes, one of the decent but injury prone cheap crocks we've specialised in signing in recent years. He'll be useful at this level if we can keep him fit but it's a big if.

He could easily go a year without a game, which usually means a few months working your way back, especially for a youngster.
