The economic boost of joining the EU would cancel that 7% very quickly. For a start, Scotland would pick up a lot of financial services business from London, and already has a well-qualified local population. Manufacturing would follow, with exporters wanting access to the vast market on their doorstep. There'd be big investment in ports too.

Jeez. How many times does the Copenhagen criteria have to be explained? You can't get in with a deficit above 3%. You can't get in by saying that the deficit will be wiped out once we are in.

It's not beyond the realms of impossibility that an independent Scotland, clearly indicating it's wish to join the EU, would attract investment ahead of said application. The reverse of us hemorrhaging investment in anticipation of leaving the EU.

Maybe. Whether it would be enough to impact their deficit is another matter.

There'd be lots of hurdles to overcome though, for sure.

I've bookmarked your "Sweepstakes on the end of the NHS, anyone? I'll give it five more years" post.

Does that give you extra points on Virtual Backbencher? I haven't downloaded yet so unsure how it works?

Your vote to leave has increased the possibility of exactly that, with an already extraordinary % of our public health service already privatised. You're a real Thatcherite, aren't you?

Glad we can both afford it.

No extra points. I just thought it best to bookmark it as you will have forgotten that you posted it after five days let alone five years.

I'm pretty certain that privatisation accelerated faster under the Blair/Brown govt than it did under the Cameron/May govt.

You may not have got the jist of my postings before, buh, but I think I may have made my displeasure with 'New Labour' fairly obvious.

Just come out and say you're a Tory, it's fine. No kink shaming on my socials.

And as for your first sentence:

1) Forgotten is an adjective, not an Americanised verb- please use English correctly.

2) Are you attempting to mock my substance abuse issues and the memory loss which results? Very poor form to pick on someone with obvious mental health issues, dear boy.

You vote for and propagate what is going on. You are the problem. Sorry. Boris is your PM. Lol.

On the one hand you talk big about fiscal responsibility, on the other you vote for Brexit.

Much sense as a chocolate fireguard.

"Those are the pre-Brexit numbers"

What the heck is Scotland going to start making post Brexit that they will export to the EU that they don't already? How would they make up the 60% if exports to the rest of the uk?#

Speaking as a reformed Brexiter I can recognise the optimism and blind faith in your posts re an independent Scotland.

I still do not want an independent Scotland but that opinion is hanging by a thread at the moment. I have no blind faith about a post independence Scotland, if it happens. It will be a long hard slog, much as Ireland had from 1922 until the Celtic tiger turned up. And then they had the small matter of a banking crisis shortly afterwards but the improvement is there for anyone who visits to see. It's busy like the United Kingdom and with the strength of the Euro pricey for us poor relations too.

I think Scotland can recover quicker than Ireland did, the separation would be less contentious and membership of the European Union would give Edinburgh and Glasgow (and to a lesser extent Stirling) a financial services advantage over London. Barring climate change catastrophes that prevented international travel Scotland's tourism industry will continue to boom and whichever way the wind blows Scotland will have energy to export.

Will new revenue streams emerge? It would be a strange world if they didn't. Again, climate change may play a part and give agricultural opportunities that were not available before.

There is nothing to be optimistic in the short term but if it does happen it is not the end of the world, there are many nations worse off and some of them (such as Greece) are already in the Euro, others (Bulgaria) have managed to get in and stay in the European Union, even Albania has got its accession underway and is receiving over a billion euro of aid already.

And this is before we consider the legalities of whether Scotland can be thrown out of the European Union when England and Wales leave.

Lol. This is literally what you think is the correct course of action, hence why you voted Tory and Brexit.

I'm happy to admit I was wrong. You on the other hand continue to support a racist and a terrorist sympathiser.

You are quite happy to throw a minority community under the buss to get your socialist dream.
