Not sure where that exact number comes from but there was quite obviously a significant gap:

https://www.channel4.com/news/factcheck/factcheck-the-labour-manifesto

It’s all very well saying people should talk about policies but when those policies are quite obviously going to be impossible to implement they become irrelevant

Not at all - are you saying all Labour's policies will be impossible to implement?!

Also, we don't know how much money is available given the Tories seem to keep finding billions and billions of it when it suits.

This is just another tactic to avoid discussing them.

I bet Bloots will downarrow this.

You do realise that total government spending is £772 billion a year. Finding a billion for the DUP is like you finding a pound coin in your jeans when putting them in the washing machine.

Besides, the money isn't going to the DUP. It's going into increased spending in Northern Ireland over 5 years on things like health, mental health, severe deprivation and infrastructure.

Again, we did this before.

Yeah we did, not sure why you're repeating it.

When I mentioned that in this thread I also mentioned the recent £2.1bn for Brexit, which you strangely haven't said anything about here.

The point is billions can seemingly be found when it suits the Tories. How much more is there knocking about in the Tory jeans?!

Again it seems you're avoiding discussing actual policies.

My political praxis and philosophy are very well aligned, thank you for asking.

Do you subscribe to a philosophy, or just think Thatcherism with lipstick has worked out terribly well? There's no shame in coming out, so it were...

Oh, and again with the Goldsmiths jibe! Is this the nicer, kinder politics we'd been promised? What was your alma mater, lowie? I bet it was an Oxbridge double-first!
[Post edited 23 Aug 2019 0:05]

what is 'thatcherism with lipstick' even supposed to mean? it's just nonsense words. but i guess that's the sort of hollow sound bite you get fed at goldsmiths and nod along to. funnily enough i would also be happy with the label democratic socialism - the specific variant running through the labour party through people like crossland, hattersley, kinnock and the like. i'm guessing your praxis involves following momentum on twitter as well as boring on on twtd.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

It means that you're happy to continue the full free market experimentation provided there are sops. There is no structural change, just bread and circuses instead of a solution.

Oh look, again with the Goldsmiths jibe! So come on borehouse, where did you study? I can't wait to find out! Bet itz well imprezzive! Any less than an oxbridge 2:2 and I will be disappointed!

No, my praxis involves much more than your senile ramblings on here. Maybe you did more when you were able to, or maybe you can't remember. Who knows.

From the way you speak on here, I'm amazed you ever voted Labour. All you are is a human footnote to Glassers' posts.

And no, I don't follow or read Momentum's stuff and I actively hate tw@tter. But nice try. A swing and a miss. Some of us were socialists before Corbyn, y'know!

Yes - unless Labour can demonstrate otherwise it’s pretty apparent they won’t be able to implement everything that has been promised without finding a few hundred billion out of thin air

As others have pointed out, the couple of billion the current government have ‘found’ is small change, and pales significantly to the amounts required to fulfil the Labour promises. The Brexit amount isn’t all that abnormal either - clearly there is significant ongoing spend for contingency on various events as BAU, Brexit or no Brexit

The Labour Party is the socialist party. Or it would be if nutters like you weren't in it.

Still no answer on the uni, eh. And why the dislike of Goldsmiths? Can only assume you went to a lesser college. Ask nurse if she can remember for you!

i see so you muddle up the two - the socialist party is how militant has rebadged itself. not being able to tell the difference is probably your problem. but what exactly is your political praxis other than posing on here?

I'll take that as Laxfield Polytechnic. Clever boy.

Let's hear your examples of radical action, brother! I mainly work with anti-deportation and housing projects, along with all the more dull stuff like demos and letter writing. Thanks for asking.

good for you then if that's the case. my focus of activism has always been through the lp - but you will appreciate that that is on pause just at the moment.

laxfield poly sounds idyllic but your first shot actually won the coconut. sorry to disappoint as it were.

This sounds quite decent for half past nine on a Friday morning, some attempt at reconciliation with a fellow poster and Town supporter. I guess the popcorn at the ready crowd in search of a ten pager are going to have to settle for seven?

I don’t disagree with you, but how are you going to do it in Scotland before you go bankrupt?

Go bankrupt? Denmark isn't bankrupt - in fact their debt is way lower as a % of GDP than the UK's (and Scotland's through no choice of our own).

So clearly we're just spending money on the wrong things.

Although seeing as I’ve answered his questions and addressed his points that should be the end of it.
Oh it’s Dolly we are talking about. Yep another 10 pages of micro analysis because I may have typed one wrong word or put a comma where a full stop should go so actually I’ve swerved and avoided his points.

"We are repeating it because you brought it up earlier n the bread."

As I said, I brought up the £2.1bn for Brexit at exactly the same time, but you decided not to mention that (and haven't done again). It's almost like you're just sticking with the smaller figure so it doesn't look so much.

I also said policies generally, not necessarily stuff that was in the last manifesto. For example, the recent one about paying young people a fair living wage.

But fine, I'm glad I've got you to admit you're not interested in discussing policies because you actually agree with many of them. That's a bit of a breakthrough! I happen to think policies are more important than personalities but maybe that's just me.

I bet Bloots will downarrow this.

The same goes for the £2billion as went for the £1billion. When an annual expenditure is £800billion then its peanuts. And it’s a one off whereas labour’s Black hole was an annual commitment.

I’ve addressed the policies before so it’s hardly a breakthrough. Not my fault that you have a poor memory.

I make no apologies for not wanting a terrorist sympathising antisemite as PM.

Now if you don’t mind I have work to do.
