How did that work exactly? Surely, the insurance pay out would have only been sufficient to build a new stand.......or did the piggy fiddlers make a spurious insurance claim for a trophy cabinet?

At least they didn't have to rake through the ashes to salvage any precious metals.

Note the bit were they gleefully confirm it was insured.
A lot of their fans play dumb when you ever mention it, as if you'd forget your club's stadium had burnt down mysteriously.
I wonder how they feel about the hotel on their perch now, if they hadn't need to sell the land for survival they could be worth so much more these days. Finger's crossed eh?

If they ever did go bust that hotel would at least have some value to people looking to experience Prince of Wales Road.

The stand was significantly under insured they were very lucky to reach an agreement with Norwich Union and then only after Sir Arthur South the chairman issued a statement to the effect he was sure Norwich Union would do the honourable thing.

The report says the firemen had a difficult task breaking down doors to access the stand … doesn't sound much like the club were keen to help them extinguish it!
One confusing part is that there was little left except badly charred trophies. What were they? Player of the year or something? Perhaps they borrowed some specially for the insurance claim.

Apparently they hadn't realised that if you claim that the F.A. Cup Winners replica was lost in the fire, there would be corroborating evidence of the relevant triumph from T.V. footage and the many lists available.
