As in your “second” goal. Took me awhile to work it out!

Not an actual "own goal", he means the goal belonging to you - that you, as the attacking team have just scored up the other end following the opposition's corner.

Confused me at first as well!

And when he says "handled", he means "the ball hitting the defender's arm"

Woudn't there be a VAR review for a potential handball anyway? So the game could be lost without the goal scored.

Yes, there would be a review for a potential penalty first anyway, whether or not a goal is scored.

I think Tom's point is that VAR is always invoked when a goal is scored - it could be the case that VAR may be used to review, say, a possible penalty just after the corner is taken, and then spot the handball, but a VAR review doesn't always happen in that case as far as I know..

Just shows what a minefield it all is!

Not disagreeing,as such, but does that basically mean VAR reviews every in-box activity for infringements?

Dis this effectively not happen in the world cup? Not to the extreme of the last minute but one team had a blatant penalty not given, other team broke down the other end, won a penalty for again a blatant foul but they took it back to the first one. Can't remember the teams, possibly Switzerland?

An interesting ish scenario. I've got another scenario for you though. Skillful little cretin jumps and handballs the ball into the net ahead of the keeper. It seems England are out of the World Cup having been reall contenders. But wait...VAR is in existence and the goal ruled out. The cretin is booked and swears at the ref and is sent off. England go on to win the World Cup.

Poll: Genuine answers please on what you would choose next season!

Take out the word ‘own’. Took me ages!

(Not your tweet I know)

It will happen, I’m sure it will happen. VAR needs to go.

But in reality what actually happened was the correct decision was made.

All the other factors are kind of irrelevant aren't they?
