Denly opening, Roy batting at four 12:32 - Sep 2 with 968 views | gordon | More muddled thinking in my opinion. Really difficult to see how Roy is selected ahead of Pope in the middle order now. Read on a cricinfo article (I think) recently that Surrey wouldn't dream of picking Roy ahead of Pope for red ball cricket.
Denly opening, Roy batting at four on 12:58 - Sep 2 with 899 views | Guthrum | I would be quite tempted to stick Leach in at no. 2 and move everyone below down a place (except maybe Stokes). At least stands a chance of taking the shine off the new ball without getting out in just an over or two, even if he doesn't actually score many.

You'd hope that there would be sufficient quality somewhere in English cricket such that we wouldn't need to employ a permanent nightwatchman.

You'd hope so, but there's been remarkably little sign over the past few years.

Weird how Dom SIbley isn't getting a look in. You'd think he'd be a far better bet than denly to open.

Denly opening, Roy batting at four on 13:18 - Sep 2 with 840 views | Barneycurley | Being a man of kent watching Denly makes me immensely proud of course and no doubt he's probably more suited to open than Roy. But that said thar pretty much means we have 4 white ball specialists from 4 to 7 and I crazily inc. Sir Ben in that albeit a bit tongue in cheek. The problem we have is the stubbornness of the selectors to not just move Roy but to drop him. Seriously any one Sibley etc would be able to improve on a 9 batting average. Fingers crossed that we capitalize on that last test - we kind of owe it to Stokesy to show some application.

Therein lies part of the problem, as said by several commentators.

He had a 1 to 1 net with Andy Flower last week and it went very well by all accounts, I think he will get on the winter tours to NZ and SAF, but it won't be easy against Boult, Southee, Rabada and Philander. Poor team management by England, Denly is a failed opener for Kent and Middlesex and bats at 4, Buttler should be at 5 but hidden away at 7. Roy bats at 5/6 for Surrey and made to open, Root bats best at 4 but has to bat at 3, Stokes should be at 6 but moved to 5. Oli Pope bats 6 for Surrey and was on standby to bat at 4.

It's pretty shambolic on 16:32 - Sep 2 with 688 views | Dyland | Shows how unimaginative and stubborn the management and selectors are. If it works it will be by luck cos there is nothing to suggest the batting order suits anyone, so they're on a hiding to nothing as well.

Denly opening, Roy batting at four on 16:44 - Sep 2 with 677 views | franz_tyson | Put Stokes at 3. Forget the late heroics for the moment... he scored 3 of his first 75 balls in that amazing innings. He’s shown he can play the slow game then ramp it up. Denly/ Burns to open. Root at 4. Pope in for Roy at 5. Bairstow and Buttler at 6 and. 7.
