I'd hope that if our reserves/squad members get us within touching distance on Wembley we'd stick the big guns out to help get us over the line but totally understand treating the group stages like we are.

He hasn't taken any cup games seriously since he has been here but presumably his PR research advised him that it is a sacking offence and red line to itfc fans. I wouldn't mind winning an F.A. Cup tie or three but I honestly hope that our interest in this other nonsense is over as soon as possible.

Why not both? This season we are at least not battling against the issue of being one of the weaker treams in the division, quite the contrary. Neither is there the FA/League Cup problem of being squashed by top-end Prem clubs at some point.
Not suggesting we should field the first team. In any case, there are plenty of good players returning from injury and youngsters establishing themselves in the senior squad, I'm not worried about our strength. I'd just like a bit more of a positive approach.
While we're down here, we may as well try to collect as much of the silverware going as possible. |  |

I suppose I'm just taking an ultra-conservative view. It's embarrassing we're at this level as it is, let alone competing in this plastic competition. Would rather reduce the number of cup fixtures to fully focus on the league, there are enough games to be played anyhow. | |
