Indeed.

Of course, the record of the Conservative government and the potential future proposed by the disaster capitalists now in charge suggest that Labour even under Corbyn promises more stability and a better environment for investment.

The narrative is crumbling.

An excerpt:

'Unlikely as it may seem, he is now seen as the lesser of two evils by analysts at Citibank and Deutsche Bank, respectively American and German titans of the financial system.

“Is Corbyn as bad as no-deal? Perhaps no longer,” said Christian Schulz at Citi.

It is not that the financiers favour the opposition leader’s plans for “higher taxes, tighter labour laws, spending increases and the nationalisation of network industries”, but that this may cause less harm than leaving the EU without a deal.'

It also suggests that, as we've maintained all along, Corbyn is a fairly moderate social democrat. He wants to regulate and restrict the City, as much as everyone demanded after 2008. Now things have shifted to the right, that's becoming more appealing to the capitalists.

Absolutely. There's nothing shocking or extreme about Corbyn's policies as there's similar all over Europe in countries that are performing better than us. And indeed they wouldn't be labelled as dangerous or unrealistic if anybody but Corbyn had talked about them.

We've just lost sight of what's important as our centre has been dragged further to the right over the past 30-40 years. We'd never have started the NHS or made any of the other sweeping social improvements of the last century if we had the narrow view we have today.

One of the many ironies of Brexit is that this whole debacle has turned people, like me, who were once lukewarm at best about Corbyn and the EU into vociferous supporters of both, for the time being.

The deceitfulness, stupidity and xenophobia of the Leave campaign and Tory party over the past three years has driven people completely in the opposite direction. I really hope it truly comes back to bite them and that the Tories are decimated for a generation.

So it'll still be quite bad, then? And worse than not leaving still. By a distance. Cool.

It's partly because the country puts such emphasis on the economic clout of the City, which is supposedly inimical to "socialist" policies. That, I think, is a left-over perception from the Thatcher era, rather than reflecting the pragmatism of people who want a successful and stable business environment in which to make money.

There are older people, like my mother, who have been angered by many of the same things. Lifelong Conservative voters who are quite likely not to next time.

No far from it he said it would put the UK in a better position than Germany if they leave admittedly with a deal than a no deal but a no deal in his opinion was a 2 -3 drop in markets max and then increasing.

Indeed. Uncertainty and a lack of confidence just increase risks and the cost of minimizing them. Not to mention freezing investments and strategic efforts that actually deliver growth.

And, despite the narrative to the contrary, most serious businesses generally appreciate regulation as it safeguards their efforts and the competitive advantages they've earned much more than it frees up opportunities and new value.

Never trust an industry or individuals who are pushing for de-regulation itself. That's almost always about pure financial self-interest rather than value creation.

I suppose the contrast would be the US, where there is a much stronger anti regulation attitude. To be fair to European capitalists, they are not that insane, it seems.

Yet three years of endless examples of antisemitism in the Labour Party which has culminated in an investigation by the EHRC for “unlawfully discriminating against people because of their ethnicity and religious beliefs” , the first of its kind since their investigation into the BNP, hasn’t put you off being a “vociferous supporter” of Corbyn? Despite the Lib Dem’s offering the sort of pro EU opposition that you seem to want.

I fear that doesn’t reflect well on your moral compass.

There's certainly a deeper belief in the US that capitalism is inherently a force for good therefore the more the better. And they respect people making a buck (which on the whole they should) and see that as an individual right and freedom to be defended.

But that's way too simplistic. The Europeans have been through all of this before and have a history where we can't take things for granted in such a way. There's far more understanding about what works for the common good also works for the individual (happiness, security, health, education etc.) so a balance is needed.

The UK seems to be somewhere between the two but heading towards the US version with the massive social, political and economic divisions that creates.

"Three years of endless examples of antisemitism"

That doesn't reflect well on your ability to address factual evidence.

Three years ago is when this campaign to make antisemitism stick to Labour started ...

That's a perfect couple of paragraphs right there.

I think my Dad is a Tory, but he hates Boris due to the lies on the bus and in the Brexit campaign and wants to Remain.

I think deep down he is a leaver but things are going well for him financially and doesn't want to rock the boat.

If there is an election not sure where he would go, not it matters round here anyway!
