Got Head out cheaply this morning & it seems as though Smith is living a slightly charmed life too & is giving more half chances than usual.

Get them 6 down before lunch & we've had a good session here.

The run rate is a bit steadier today, letting them score at four an over yesterday was pretty sloppy even allowing for playing against two good, in-from batsmen.

Yes, looks like he'll be the difference between the two sides. Sometimes you lose to the better side.

Not that we've lost yet, the Aussie side is still otherwise fragile and the weather could well see this Test being drawn.

It's bonkers how well he's batting at the moment, it's beyond ridiculous now.

Meant to be dry for the next three days, so doubt that'll be enough to stop the defeat.

RIP Sir Bobby

thankful that Warners out of form/Broad's got his number. There's not much between the sides other than Smith but even without him they're a better batting side currently. Bowlers tend to be more consistent as well. With Smith they'd pound us down under.

Steve Smith's last 12 innings against England: 143, 141*, 40, 6, 239, 76, 102*, 83, 144, 142, 92, 101*.

So a quick calc shows that to be an average of 145 against England over the last 12 innings.

Crazy.

It's annoying isn't it.

I wish he could go back to being that chubby all rounder who got to 20 then nicked off & bowled sh1t leg spin.

Saw the word's "got", "head" and "cheaply" this morning and my ears pricked up...

Then I realised you were talking about cricket!

How can a spinner overstep the line? FFS, I got the alert up and thought we had him at least.

Well, what a surprise.

I get in from work. Turn on telly and find Smith still at the crease.

Heard that on TMS, although I wonder how many were missed without cameras.

As for the match, Smith relentlessly passes 200.

Sigh.

Sky just said Smith is the highest runscorer in world cricket in Test match form in 2019.

It’s his 3rd match.

This reminds me of when a group of kids play cricket in the park and that older kid is batting.

Notice that Stokes and Leach shared an over? Is someone injured?

Mitchell Starc opening his shoulders. I can see a declaration soon and us being 2 down for sod all at close.

Smith out trying to up the scoring rate.

They are up near 450 though so might as well declare and have a pop at us. Given Root is turning it we are likely to be in trouble.

Woakes the fall guy after one average test match sorely missed.

That extra movement would have captured a few.

Let's hope Archer is back in sorts for a second innings fight back ... as long as we avoid the f.o.

One down is better than I expected at close when Paine declared.

We need to bat through to mid afternoon on Saturday though realistically if we’re going to be alive and kicking at the oval.

Weather looks promising today:

That will be our best chance of the draw.
