Opening game of the NFL season; one of the worst games ever 13:04 - Sep 6 with 2004 viewsIllinoisblue

The Bears were a shambles. And that’s being kind. McCarthyesque from them.

Awful game but credit to the Packers for getting the job done.

I honestly watched that and couldn't help but get that little internal voice saying "match fixing" That would be a hard game to accept any time, but as the season opener it was ridiculous

I'm clinging on to the fact that even with their D, that Mitch simply isn't very good - looks like they struggled to hide him last night, he's just not accurate enough

Think our D deserves a bit of the credit for forcing the mistakes - from the highlights this morning it looked like we were able to generate quite a bit of pressure with coverage good on the back end

Probably made easier for us too as Nagy completely under-utilised the run, although we had shut that down too tbf

Agree broadly re Trubisky though, haven’t seen anything as yet that suggests he’ll be anything better than average at best

Side note to highlight a couple of my predictions in the other thread this week. Bears to make the SB and that Packers would be gash. Looking on point so far!

Bit harsh. Two good defences. Erratic QB on one side - knowitall QB legend on the other who probably struggles with the new playbook and coach for now. AND a local derby. Hardly a surprise it was dour.... in many ways it's proper football as MM or those good ol' boys would say. Plenty of time for flashy passes in the no consequence games if that's your penchant.

Ironically, Mike McCarthy was sacked from the Packers and we produced the best defensive game in a long time!!

A win against the Bears is a good way to start, even if it wasn't the best match to watch, mind you I only saw the highlights

Yep, goes without saying that holding any NFL team to 3 points is primarily a good defensive display more than anything - just a decent QB will be able to get on top a bit more than that, it's effectively 1 drive in the whole game.

North is going to be a brutal division this year.

he was getting slaughtered on a couple blogs I looked at this morning. Think it's harsh to blame it all on him. #12 wasn't much better but made the play he had to make.

A LOT of booing from the Bears fans. Understandably. I think first half they 9 possessions and ended up punting on 8 of them.

Packers D much improved though.

it was pretty awful to watch from a Bears perspective at least. Couldn't get anything going at all.

Great bet. I fancied a low scoring game but it never occurred to me that the line would be that high.

There’s only been 2 games hit 49 points+ in the past 8 Packers-Bears meetings, and they were 2 years+ back

Either one of the most obvious bets in ages slipped under the radar there or you just won about 30p

Horrific game from a bears point of view. It starts with the play calling and game plan which was just completely off and far too cute.
Whichever side of the opinion you stand on trubisky only giving your running backs 12 touches in total is criminal and does not help 95% of qbs in this league .
We didn’t run the ball again from the middle of the third quarter when it was still only 7-3 that’s insane.

In the nfl there are only 4

Brady
Mahomes
Rodgers
brees

That could operate an offence like that. You must keep balanced to keep defences honest. Bears didn’t do that.

Ah well we lost the opener last year and it worked out well, getting to the bye 3-2 is essential

Stayed awake until 4 am and the start of the fourth quarter. Was really poor from the Bears offence.

Should have been a good divisional game but this early in the season defence's are generally uo to speed quicker than the offence's . Defence relieves more on physicality whereas the offence is more technical and needs a few more games to get the pass routes and timings up to speed.

Apparently Aaron Rogers didn't throw a single ball in the Green Bay pre season games. His timing looked off last night except for the one touchdown drive of the whole game.

It’s also a bit that offenses haven’t had the time to watch tape and prepare for what the defenders are throwing at them. Of course that works both ways but safe to say the way the Packers were coming at Trubisky was quite different to what the Bears were probably expecting

Trubisky is still very green - so no surprise that he really struggled to adjust and was knocked completely off his game
