The cheapest way would of course be to fare dodge, but I would not recommend that. The next cheapest appears to be around £43 buying singles in each direction.

If you already have a bicycle, then that is 7h30 each way, plus 2h for the game. 17h day seems doable.

Gillingham isn't the nicest of places. A bicycle would look pretty tempting to a local looking to escape for greener pastures. So make sure you take a good lock.
