With 92% of votes counted, The Joint List, an alliance of four Arab parties, is slated to be the third largest party in the Knesset with 12 seats. Looks like the Arab vote has finished Netanyahu. Can’t see him wriggling out if this and could be due for a spot of porridge. | |

They were terrorists full stop. The wish for a free country in your historical homeland never excuses terrorism. A belief in a united Ireland is an entirely reasonable view to have. That doesn’t excuse the actions of the IRA. The belief in a Jewish state in Israel doesn’t excuse the actions of the Irgun. [Post edited 18 Sep 2019 11:09]

The political leaders of the Zionist movement in the run up to the creation of Israel and the years after were predominantly left-leaning, if not actively socialist. Weizmann being something of an exception.
Irgun, on the other hand, were more right wing, which is why they split off from Haganah. | |

They won twelve seats and came third in 2015 but Netanyahu still formed the government. What matters is the spread of seats amongst the smaller parties.
Ultimately the only thing that will determine whether Netanyahu forms a government is what Yisrael Beiteinu do. They have said they will not join a government with the Joint List (their leader wants Arab towns transferred to the Palestinian territories in exchange for settlements legally becoming Israel territory). However, they have also produced a list of demands that will be unacceptable for the religious parties (public transport at weekend, proper education for the ultra-orthodox and no national service exemptions for them either).
It may be the case that the Joint List don't join a government but support it (as they did with Rabin back in the 1990s). |  | | |

I don't think anyone in their right mind thinks that the Israeli government practices apartheid in the country itself (although there is clearly discrimination in many areas).
However, how Israel behaves in the West Bank is the issue - settlers can vote, Palestinians cannot, some roads are segregated etc.
