I'm no wrestling expert, and presumably neither is James Norwood, but he is relying on things going right in which can be complex moves with small margins for error.
It just seems unnecessarily risky considering footballers have it in their contracts they can't ski, ride motorbikes,, and a whole host of other activities |
We were doing those moves on each other in school when we were 11-12 with no training, no safety measures and on the playing field. No one ever got hurt (although I accept there was a risk). If he were doing a Shooting Star Press off the top of a steel cage I'd share your sentiment but it the Rock Bottom is a fairly tame one to perform. He basically stuck his arm out and fell forward, as someone above states most the (minimal) risk and impact falls with the other person who is a trained pro.
I expect he had a full briefing beforehand too and a play around in the ring prior to the event to get a feel for it. Opps, I mean, wrestling is real and Norwood 3:16 just whipped his ass. |  |

The move he did was actually mostly the receiving party's athleticism, the first lesson a wrestler learns is to take a bump, which means repeated drills of landing square on one's back from a standing position, if you look at the fella Norwood slams, the knees are bent and he pushes up to jump, Norwood at most applies forward force to help the slammed wrestler pivot on to his back. Very little strength in that slam came from Norwood at all, so, nothing really to get too het up over. |
