So these Labour delegates just: 17:52 - Sep 23 with 6631 viewsSpruceMoose

1) Voted down 'back remain now' motion.

2) Backed NEC statement calling for Labour to postpone decision on how to campaign in referendum.

Any Remainers out there still have a strong faith that voting Labour will get you what you want?

They’ve just signed their own electoral death warrant.

How can they not see it?

They’ll hold a special one day conference AFTER the election to decide their position. FFS, it’s just pathetic and also so badly misjudged.

I have faith that they would offer two acceptable outcomes in a confirmatory vote.....if that helps.

Chances are we will have left before an election anyway so probably all a lot of hot air.

Edit...most Labour constituencies voted to leave.

Right now their leader seems more important to them than Brexit. Which is fair enough if that's what the members want. It'll drive others a way though.

That doesn't mean that most Labour voters in those constituencies voted to leave. It just means that some of them added to the UKIP and Tory voter voted to leave. A majority of Labour members still voted remain.

A sign of the times that doing something quite sensible is seen as a big problem.

The populist options on both sides (Tory/Brexit v Swinson) don’t do anything in terms of actually solving the problems that caused Leave to win or that will come after their respective win for No Deal/Revoke.

The labour policy is sound and democratic, but that’s not the sort of stuff that is popular in politics anymore.

Well, according to these 2 reports, you're both correct; most Labour constituencies voted to leave, but most Labour voters voted to remain...which would probably explain why the party's Brexit policy is such a mess.

Throw in the stat of how MP's voted at the referendum "“By MP - 160 Leave | 486 Remain” and the water gets muddier...

Except they haven’t taken a position.

They’re going to have to campaign one way or another at some point, they just don’t want to tell people which way until after the election. That’s not a principled stance, it’s a misguided attempt to play politics.

It’s a shameful attempt to keep leave voters onside until they no longer need them.

There is no chance whatsoever that Labour will campaign to leave.

Negotiate the best possible deal and then let the public decide - that’s a position, and surely the most democratic way of breaking the deadlock?

Think you are right, Can see Labour losing Ipswich on this stance - not sure they are keeping either side of the divide happy.

My understanding is that it was a vote over whether to support remain *now* - which undermines the rest of the plan imo.

What do you think are the chances of Labour opting to support leave?

They should tell us what they think is the best thing for the country and for the people they represent.
