Neither of our strikers look like good penalty takers. Which other nailed on starter (as far as it goes at the moment) could make the job theirs?

Garbutt wanted it yesterday, not sure on his record but he’s a great set piece taker

Even without looking up his record from the spot, intuitively he feels a better bet.

Failure from the spot will cost us points sooner rather than later. Arguably already has at Posh but we probably deserved no more than a point there anyway.

Where’s Tommy Miller when you need him?

Got to be Garbs, Shirley?

Skuse. I semi serious too. He has one hell of a boot on him when he smacks one, so he might be able to go for non nonsense rockets on the spot. That, and I want to see his social media video thing.

we haven't had a good penalty taker for ages.

Mcgoldrick was awful, Norwood looks shaky, Jackson blew his chance (which was weird because he scored a lot for Accrington)

Murph was good, but he barely took them.

I would give them to skuse.

Nolan for me or Garbutt as he hits the ball sweetly. Maybe KVY as he seems capable of doing everything.

McGoldrick had a better success rate than Murphy!

Didn't know that.

However, Didzys penalties were horrid to watch. He used to dribble them in the corners, and the keeper always had a chance. He took them for Sheff U, but was quickly removed after he missed one in the Steel city Derby.

Whoever takes them I went to see them make their mind up and thump it rather than a stuttered run-up before passing it to the keeper or past the post

Moreover, might encourage him to have a go at scoring more often. When there's nothing else on, a Skuse thunderbolt could provide a useful bonus.

Actually, taking cup games into account they have the same ratio if these stats are correct

Either way, neither of them were on Tommy Miller's level.

It gets worse every time I watch it back.

Garbutt seems like the obvious choice for me, but I think that's because left footers have always been my favourite penalty takers. He's not really got the thunderbastard potential of Thommo or Venus though.

I think Sears and Keane both have 100% records from the spot for Town (1 out of 1).

Garbutt was the obvious taker for me. Jackson taking it fell into the "I won it, I'm taking it" bracket.

Garbutt also had a word with Jackson just before he took the pen. I wonder whether that maybe put some kind of doubt in his mind...?

Not 100% accurate, as Boncho missed at least two (Sheff Wed and QPR) in the relegation season

Ted Phillips was not one for placing his penalty kicks either.

If the goalkeeper dived it was more likely that they were trying to get out of the way rather than trying to save it.
Ted scored 25 out of the 28 that he took.
