Doubtful the US will waive the immunity - they have already said it's highly unusual to do so.
Not entirely sure why a diplomats spouse has immunity - it's essentially giving them a free reign to come and do illegal things whilst not actually being a diplomat.

Sounds like, even if the circumstances are that the woman who is fled was entirely innocent of any blame, comes forward etc, that the family of the deceased are doing a wonderful thing in highlighting the need for change in this arrangement to prevent someone suffering in the future.

Years ago there was a spate of accidents on the Mildenhall to Bury road where American service men would do exactly as she did on a regular basis.
A good friend of mine had the front of his van caved in due to a head on at a bend with a Yank Tank.
