If Lambert was poached/walked tomorrow who would you replace him with? 14:52 - Oct 11 with 7403 viewsMaySixth

The most important question any club should ask itself. always be aware of the next replacement, never rest on your laurels.

Lambert doing an excellent job but when he leaves I would like John McGreal

Would never happen. It would mean redesigning the whole of the Co-Op Stand to accommodate bigger dugouts. Too expensive.

John McGreal? That would sink us quicker than the Titanic.

You need someone who's mature, has played a decent amount of top level games, European football, international football preferably as well as had some substantial managerial achievements elsewhere something both Mick and Lambert both have in common and Pub manager Paul had none of.

Nathan Jones hasn't got long left with Stoke City. If Lambert went this year I'd go for him.

Lambert is doing an excellent job. He's really, really impressed me. Just about every side of his tenure here thus far is spot on. His ethos, playing style, pathway for the academy, a healthy balance of take no prisoners but arm round shoulder man management, league form and results, recruitment in, transfers out, PR and supporter connection, influence over ME, work in the community etc. I have to say there's really very little to fault IMO. I remember sitting in the stand for the Preston match, watching him bark orders for 90 minutes and getting an immediate reaction against a good side. Followed that week by inviting the legends to the training ground, he really has been bang on it from day 1.

I feel like we've got some strategic direction finally, and for the first time in a long time I can see a plan that extends beyond 6 - 12 months. Hopefully Evans supports him by keeping the squad together where possible, especially those talented youngsters.

It shouldn't surprise anyone to be fair, his CV is actually very good. From Wycombe, Colchester, Norwich (dare I say it) where he did a great job. Villa was a bit of a basket case but my Wolves supporting colleague was also a big fan of him there, said the supporters really felt like he was starting to build something, and his record there wasn't half bad. I think we're really lucky to have him here and long may it continue.

In answer to your question, after I've stopped crying, as mad as it sounds at 70 years old and without a gig for years but I would say a Joe Royle type on an interim basis to see the season out would be ideal. He's got gravitas and demands respect, he's massively experienced, a brilliant man manager and presumably wouldn't want a 5 year job. We would then hopefully be an attractive proposition and pretty nice base for the next manager in the summer.

Eh? He got us relegated!

Excellent this season. Appalling last year.

"appalling" last year is a stretch.

He's done it to Norwich and Colchester. If he's what he sees as a better, more high profile job, he'll jump at it.

It is impossible to name anyone that WOULD have saved us as in they would have saved us without any doubt but the situation was far from being beyond saving so it would not be difficult to list several people who MIGHT have saved us.

Paul Lambert for one.
