A fairly open secret during the last 18 months to anyone in Westminster. Its simply all about the timing now

Was Corbyn ever anything more than a figurehead?

Prior to attaining the leadership, he was neither a new rising star, a long-time senior (Shadow or actual) Cabinet member, nor the head of a significant faction within the Party. He came pretty much out of nowhere.

Won't the leader have to be voted for by the members anyway?

Basically, it what ever Momentum wants isn’t it? They are the Labour Party and you either stay ‘on message’ or face a tough time from what I’ve read. Corbyn is old for a leader and looks it. Wasn’t he bunged in as a candidate to make up the numbers? If so, that would make him little more than a figurehead. However, he is extremely popular. Who is to say his successor will be?

Whilst I don't keep up as much as some with politics, I do watch or listen to HoC on radio/TV most days when it's sitting, and the number of times I've heard JC actually *lead* since he was elected could be counted on the fingers of one hand.

He's extremely popular within Club Momentum, but not without it, which is something that they simply refuse to contemplate - and that's their main problem. Millions of moderate former Labour voters are either ignored or dismissed as simply not sufficiently socialist.

Which set of careerist liars are taking over from the existing careerist liars and who still thick enough to vote for Labour? Only the tribalist sheep surely. Absolutely laughable how anyone can still vote for any Conservative, Labour or Liberal cretin.

And some of us have had to put up with the party being insufficiently socialist for the last thirty years. Oh well.

I'm a pragmatist. If Labour were currently moderate left and JC-less, instead of where they actually are & what they're currently espousing, the Tories would have been booted out years ago.

There's very little about Labour's plans that are 'hard' left in any way. And that I guess is the problem. 'Moderates' seem to think that fairly mild social democratic policies are somehow 1916 all over again. What's left to some isn't far enough for t'others.

So you'd rather have a socialist opposition and a Tory government than a centre left Labour government.

I'd rather have a real choice of a mildly progressive party instead of Tory-lite Labour, ja. Had New Labour been more socialist and redistributive in their policies I don't think we'd be in quite the pickle we're in now.

It really is useless, pointless, going back 20 years.

I too would rather have a real choice of a mildly progressive party instead of the Tories. But current Labour aren't the former in the eyes of millions of us wannabe Labour voters, sorry.

ActionMan did actually say he would not vote for a Conservative cretin. Although you could make a case for Johnson leading a party who are no longer Conservatives (with Hammond, Clarke, Rudd et al being a Conservative Party in waiting once grass roots Conservatives catch on to what has been done to them), in which case the cretins ActionMan would vote for are this new lot, the 1922 party. Or maybe ActionMan would prefer Barbie...

Anyone who is seen to go against Corbyn will get the same treatment. Watson, now McDonnell.

Corbyn is increasingly isolated in his Brexit views from those who pay the bills for Labour. Its only a matter of time

Yes, forcing sales of rented properties to sitting tenants at below market value would certainly see the number of properties to let crash, & the price for those still available to rent consequently rise considerably.
