Quick search online has not proved to be very successful. Thanks in advance

ENAMEL POPPY ITFC BADGE2019 on 13:55 - Oct 16 with 3483 views | clive_baker | Just my opinion but there's something that doesn't sit well with me about having an ITFC badge on a poppy. I don't see the link, and the significance of the poppy and remembrance transcends any need for me to want to 'wear my colours' from a football perspective. I find it a bit unsavoury personally but as I said it is just my opinion. Each to their own.

Why would you put your football team alongside honouring and remembering war heroes? Where is the football connection? Why are we watering it down? I don't see what place football has here

It’s a good way of raising more money? People have collected these for years, it’s not a new thing.

Whats the difference between a player's shirt having a poppy emblem on it and these badges? You could say the players shirt gesture is out of place then as well then..

Err no it is completely different, you are adding a poppy as a mark of respect to a kit that is already being used. Adding the badge to the poppy does absolutely nothing at all to benefit anyone

Indeed, I don't see an issue with cross marketing if a fair amount of money is going to where it should be going, and by fair I mean all profit.

ENAMEL POPPY ITFC BADGE2019 on 18:01 - Oct 16 with 3192 views | BlueBadger | Call me old-fashioned, but I just preferred it when we had a simple paper poppy that your wore for about two weeks and that was that. I can't help but think that the proliferation of 'poppy tat' such as this is an insult to the quiet dignity and courage of the people who actually served and sacrificed. I'm pretty sure it's no coincidence that it's mushroomed in recent years as the Greatest Generation are now all passing on.

Agree. Remembrance Day is about quiet personal reflection. It's personal. So there should be no pressure to conform. Poppies embroidered on team kits are not personal at all. It's quiet. So it's not about commercialisation of the poppy. It's not about the poopyware business. More than anything I hate Poppyism: the cross examination of any individual in the public eye who for whatever reason decides not to wear a poppy at any point in the first two weeks of November. That said, I understand and respect the efforts the UK made for the WW1 centenary. It was a big event, but it remained respectful. I think people need to check themselves before they buy a cheap metal poppy badge with a sporting logo on it and ask themselves why they are buying it, who is benefitting from it and what impact it has on the environment. The Poppy shop that flogs these little trinkets states : "100% of the profits go to the Royal British Legion". If nobody benefits, are they trousering all the proceeds then?

ENAMEL POPPY ITFC BADGE2019 on 20:33 - Oct 16 with 3031 views | J2BLUE | We had a big debate on these either last year or the year before. I remember saying they were tacky but my stance has softened. I wouldn't want to wear one but they seem to be 'official' and all profit goes where it's supposed to go. My new irritation is the ebay sellers who sell poppy based jewellery with no mention of where the profit goes.

I don't suppose the company in China* is selling them at cost? * I have no evidence that these items are made in China, but I doubt they are made in Britain and I doubt they are sold at cost.

No idea. Just seen they are £3 with £4 postage. No idea why anyone would pay that to haev the Ipswich badge on there when they could donate £7 for a normal poppy. Bizarre.

Does the profit really go "where it's supposed to go" though? Firstly, it's not just faceless Ebay sellers cashing in. Take high street brand Fallen Hero for instance: Selling these t-shirts last year for £39, with "£10 donated for each t-shirt" in the description. There are endless examples of big companies taking advantage of people's emotions for their own profit. Secondly, is the British Legion really where the profit is "supposed to go"? 25 employees at the British Legion are on £60k+ salaries. Fewer than 5 of those ever served in the armed forces. 9 people with no service background take home £1million per annum of your donations between them. MoD have confirmed that around 10,000 former personnel are either in prison, on probation or parole. Official UK Government figures state that nearly 10,000 are homeless. The Mental Health Foundation's figures estimate that 25,000 are receiving treatment but a further 25,000 are unable to get the support they need. If the British Legion were serious about fulfilling their founding mission, they would be lobbying the government relentlessly to actually make a difference. In reality, they sit on assets and essentially put on a big show every year. None of you will like to hear it but all you're commemorating with your ridiculous football poppies (or non-football poppies) is a shameful falsity.
