Roots Hall is a dump etc(The toilets / food bar were just awful) but the atmosphere created between the 2 sets of fans was funny at times, thought our support was very good throughout, very loud at times

Game wise, Southend are clearly a poor side lacking confidence and if we had followed the first goal up with a 2nd then earlier another pasting was on the cards for them. We do seem to play within ourselves rather then kill teams off at times, then the 2nd went in everyone gained a yard and we looked good.

Decent day out all round

Proper football day out.

Grounds like that are so much better than the most awful plastic things some clubs have now.

thought it was going to kick off at one point when they let the town fans into the area closer to them, flares, fans getting on seats / barriers Poor stewarding there

Mind you the average age for them must have been 14

The stewards had no choice.

There was no room anywhere else.... unreserved seating for a sold out away end always has the chance of ending that way.

I was with a couple of Southend fans, as we were walking past a pub near the ground a group of fans were having a pop at some people walking by. There were about 12 of them and they looked like BNP hard core but one had an Ipswich flag. Not seen anything like them at Portman road. Anyone know anything about them or is it a group of fans from other clubs that join up for games like Southend.

The un reserved seating was a stupid move. It was crammed and 2 minutes before the ground the last 100 in didn’t seem keen on picking out the odd seat between hundreds of people. This forced an additional area of the ground to be opened. What pathetic safety standards.

Away end was shocking, no chance of getting anything to eat with the bar being crap, no alcohol on sale and the whole place generally looked run down.

Seats apart from the first few rows were clearly designed for nobody over 6ft, the legroom was almost non existent and the bloody supports at the front of the stand pretty much made every seat a restricted view unless you were right at the front.

Considering we all had reserved seats on our tickets it was strange that they basically made it unreserved. Problem with that when it's sold out is you get a mad rush just before the match with people trying to find a space, very predictable.

Wannabe BNP Hard nut outside pub after the game walking back to the Town centre was giving it large, but he got back plenty for it, although not sure the cops were too happy.

Have to say though great atmosphere, had a good day out and we got the three points and now I've lost my voice

I was in the pub outside Southend Central before the game from 12ish and at around 1:20 a bunch of Weekend Offender/North Face/Stone Island fans walked in, caps on, like they’re making the new sequel to Green Street. Saw them again after the game being chased by Southend fans outside the Slug and Lettuce before 4 policemen came and for some reason decided to escort them back towards the Southend fans where they then threw the odd hand gesture behind police protection.

The whole thing is embarrassing and a sad reflection of a minority of our fans that only go to local away games and don’t reflect the majority of Town fans.
