Roots Hall - Worst Ground In The League? 10:51 - Oct 28 with 5544 viewsOhDavidMcgoldrick

It was my first trip to Southend on Saturday, I had heard the ground was looking in need of refurbishment - but I personally have not been to a worse ground (at professional level).

The half height concrete steps in each row were lethal, the toilet was nothing more than a brick channel in the floor and the home areas looked just as shabby.
The press box looked very cosy!

Can anyone better my vote for Roots Hall?

Strangely - they had electronic turnstiles!

Oh believe me, I would rather Roots Hall over the Emirates any day to watch a game.

Was just surprised that it manages to get a safety certificate!

Unreserved seating in a full away end still baffles me!

I might get a season ticket in the away end there for the rest of season, support whoever is playing

Not sure it will be quite the same when Fleetwood have brought down 32 fans

Rather a proper ground like Roots Hall than a dull, plastic out of town stadium like the Madjeski.

God, i hate that place. A pain in the arse to get to, utterly without soul and we usually lose there.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

To be fair we have usually lost at most places in the last few seasons! Though the Madjeski is and will always be a souless pit.

There will be worse I reckon.

It’s a sh!thole but it’s a proper old school ground.

Peterborough used to be worse before the ‘refurb’.

I loved Peterborough before apart from not being able to buy a beer

The worst I've ever been to is the Ricoh, I love grounds like Brentwood, Luton, Accrington, Fleetwood etc. The only new ground that I half like is MK Dons but I wouldn't swap it for any of the above

Disagree. Had a great time, old school, close to the pitch, fans packed in, great atmosphere.

Loved it!

Exactly this.

10 minute walk from the station/ town centre, small, intimate, loud.

Give me Roots Hall over some pre-fabricated nonsense like the Madjeski (sp) every single time.

Have you been to Spotland? It's quite decent to be fair.

Accrington by far the worst, one of the worst in the whole EFL.

Its hardly changed since the 60's- other than the south stand which used to be an open, oversized Spion Kop terrace. That was savagely reduced I can't remember when being replaced by the flats looming over that end of the ground. They then built that small covered stand there. Other than that, I don't think they've done a great deal else to it.
Been talking for years about a new ground being built...?

It had "character" for sure, but am with you. A proper throwback to the 1950s. Enjoyed it though, despite the dated state of it.
