You know when the teacher gives your kids a project to do during half term / bring back afterwards? Like build a famous building out of cardboard, make an ecosystem out of washing up bottles?

Any chance you could let you kids do it themselves please, rather than make a 5 foot tall perfectly sculptured Eifle Tower, or a river ecosystem with night and day lighting and running water?

Its just that the kids that do it themselves might be a bit disheartenned and you don;t really have anything to prove yourselves do you?!

Has anyone ever looked at their own postings for last day or so? Oh my... so sorry. Was Ullaa

Your Eifle (sic) tower didn't quite work then?

If I were a teacher, the work patently done by the parents would get no marks, and I'd smash it all up.

I wish you were teacher for day in my son's class. Cheats!

In the interests of balance, I would mercilessly mock his efforts.

I was at Cub Scout camp once when all us kids had to make shields and swords out of cardboard, to be judged for a competition. One kid's dad had clearly made his - and previous to the event rather than on the day with the materials supplied. It was a full suit of armour, complete with hinged visor.

There was to be a battle after the judging and everyone was making comments about looking forward to him being in the battle. We ALL wanted to smash his creation to bits. His dad wouldn't let him take part, sadly.

I can't remember if he won the judging part... but I totally agree with you, ridiculous, and parents who do that aren't really getting into the spirit of things. The joy for the kids is in the creation (and smashing each other's up afterwards!)

I bet Bloots will downarrow this.

Maybe there's just some really smart kids out there?

I once got called a cheat by some ridiculous English teacher for producing a decent piece of work. Trashed my confidence as I was afraid to try hard again and risk further humiliation.

The stupid person would be sued if that happened now.

I might hunt her down as it goes. I wonder if she's still alive.

Parents evening is always fun for these. Dads can't help but give the game away. I always try and weave in what they do for a living. Works every time.

But the marks I get now for some of my masterpieces are way better than when I was at primary school. I (via my son) have had some wicked comments from the teachers. Why shouldn't I get the reflected glow of praise, especially when my son is rubbish at that sort of thing. My castle a few months back was a thing of wonder. I find it's the small details that really carries it through. And my contraption for getting an un-boiled egg, unbroken, across a classroom was a work of simple, beautiful joy. What else would I do in the evenings?

That happened to me, I was supposed to get the marks back if my next assignment was deemed good enough. Pah.

And I once wrote a short story about Special Branch illegally investigating CND and being intimidating, back in the day.

It was marked down for being a ridiculous premise for a story.....until there was a news item about people being followed about by Special Branch officers after attending CND meetings,... apparently it was then my style that was the problem.

Crushed by the man.

I coulda’ been a contender, I coulda’ been somebody...etc...

Agree entirely.

Teach your child chess. It has everything, maths, geometry, logical thinking and even better if the school has a chess club.

If you have two teach the oldest and let them teach the youngest.

Surely, once started, you could look a bit more closely and find a nice straight bit to finish on.

I used to detest art class. Have absolutely no interest in it.

One day I was drawing a fish using chalk on black paper. Apparently it was looking good (for me) as the teacher got all excited and started offering pointers (she never gave me any time normally).

In the end she changed a little bit herself. And then a bit more.

Before you know it she has touched up the drawing so it was no longer my work.

She marked her own work a B.

Didn't he take a rest on day seven?

Maybe that's why the world is rather less than perfect.

Thankfully SwanseaBlue is a bit more of a grafter, putting a bit more time and trouble in to sort out all those teething troubles.
