Sunday Lunch Bury St Edmunds 20:04 - Nov 4 with 2503 viewspeterleeblue

To the great TWTD family - Please can you help.

I am down in East Anglia 1st December and looking for somewhere to take my Mum out for her Birthday for Sunday Dinner. My daughter and wife are Vegan / Vegetarian so need somewhere that caters well for this.

At the moment my Mum has booked the Tollgate - GK managed by the looks of it.
There must be a decent offer out there.
Any suggestions?

cheers in advance
PB

Not sure about the vegan/vegetarian bit but The One Bull is great for food

One Bull is a better shout. Good beer too.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

While I've never been myself so cannot personally recommend, one of the granddaughters is vega and I know she has used Casa (I think that's how you spell it) in BSE a few times and enjoys the food.

Although not sure if they do offers

All Saints Hotel in Fornham
A bit further out The Kentford, in Kentford, is good for a Sunday roast.

..and a bit further afield the Cadogan Arms at Ingham and the Crown at Hartest are run by the same people, do similarly good food, and I think do veggie options (not sure about vegan though).

The Packhorse at Moulton is worth a look too. Bit posh but decent.

Someone above says the Cock at Kentford. I'd avoid it there. I've had exclusively bad experiences there.

I'd add the Brewers at Rattlesden and the Plough at Rede to the list.

Agree with the Packhorse.

I haven't been to the Cock for a few months. When did you go? My friend went recently and said he had a bad experience but assumed it was just him moaning at anything (like usual)!

Hardly near Bury, let alone in it.

Massive irony in exploiting a Lion in the name of a veggie pub.

It should be the Red Onion.

Fair enough... it's a heady 20 mile drive away but does have multiple very good vegan options ...

I have frequently been to the Red Lion at Gt Bricett, but think the Walnut Tree at Thwaite (A140) is far nicer. Although I am virtually vegan, a lot of our friends are not and they love going too because of the quality of the meals served.
Bit of a drive, but well worth it IMO.

My reading of the OP was that it's particularly about taking his mum out for Sunday lunch, and having to cater for a couple of fussy people as well. Why should his mother have to have rabbit food?

Sounds good will have to give it a (walnut) whirl.

Edit...I see it is the former owners of the Red Lion.
