Dulwich Hamlet was the first ground I ever went to.

Having lived in South London up to my teenage years, my Dad would drag me out every Saturday between September and April to watch a match somewhere, Dulwich Hamlet was always a favourite as we could then end up at my Nan's for tea in Tulse Hill!

My other favourite grounds were:

Tooting and Mitcham
Wimbledon - shame their new stadium on the old speedway track won't be ready this season
Palace - my first game, September 66
Croydon Amateurs
Kingstonian

Just one small problem; sell their houses to who, Ben? Fcking Aquaman?

I was often at Sandy Lane back in the late '60s.

My first league game ever was Chelsea v WBA around about 1967. Geoff Astle and Tony Hateley were both involved. Bothwere prolific headers of the ball. Both were dead in their seventies from Alzheimers.

Did they previously host roman gladiators there then?

Their opponents tonight we're the first club I ever saw Town play against. January 76 I think. We won 3-0. The only time we played Carlisle in the top flight I do believe.

Appreciate the sentiment (the link between heading and alzeimers) but your memory has let you down on the dates Factors.

2002 Astle and another 12 years for Hateley.

I think you may have misread bud.

In their 70s - not the 70s. Hately was 72.

Although a quick googly says Astle was only 60. Heck.

Yep, stand corrected.

Thought Factors was showing some early signs of dementia and it was me showing signs of failing eyesight :-(

You must have been at some of the games that we were at then! There were a few weekends when nearly every team that we'd normally watch were playing away and we ended up watching Corinthian Casuals at Sandy Lane in their lovely pink and brown kit! One thing I always remember was that they always played Colonel Bogey at half time for some bizarre reason!

We were going when the Casuals were ground sharing with Dulwich Hamlet.

He didn't say you were formed in 1893.

Don't be so sensitive.

We all know it was the early 20th C.

I was actually born the day after Duncan Edwards' debut for England in a 7-2 win over Scotland.

Did they have pot holes in those days?

Edit: Cripes, he was only 22 at the time of the incident. Tragic.

And Jimmy Armfield - a contemporary of Edwards, a good player in his own right and excellent pundit - reckoned that with Edwards England would have won three consecutive World Cups.
