Well, we are still entitled to it so should claim it. At the very least the money could be used to pay for this

Just a shame we’ve stopped dredging the rivers because of the EU, which has contributed to the problem in the first place. Oh the irony

Sounds like a job for this EU army that I hear of a fair bit.

Please note: prior to hitting the post button, I've double checked for anything that could be construed as "Anti Semitic" and to the best of my knowledge it isn't. Anything deemed to be of a Xenophobic nature is therefore purely accidental or down to your own misconstruing.

Dredging hasn't stopped but a more considered approach is being taken. Much of our current inablity to deal effectively with high water events is because of bad practice in the 50's and 60's of channelising rivers which transfers the problem more quickly downstream . when dredging takes place its neccesary to remove the spoil as it makes a poor ' high wall' when the banks are raised as it washes away easily. A better method is to make rivers more sinous which absorbs and slows down water which when coupled with designated wetland habitat and tree planting higher upstream is effective.

I'm not here to defend the EU but I've no idea where you've got this stopping dredging rivers because of the EU thing from.

You’ve quoted the theory, but as with all bureaucracy, it doesn’t happen. It’s now so expensive to dredge that they don’t bother
