Horses for courses mr - my simple mind found it a good read. I'll go and have a go on your prefered link now.

Maybe deep was the wrong word, or maybe I'm just losing it.

I've read Darth's link now - very good. One question though: now that Labour have got much nearer to full-throttle socialism, what happens if the voters say no?

I think the Labour Manifesto is absolutely excellent and there is very little in there to disagree with, even if it does mean I will be paying a couple points more on corp tax. However I believe sadly that it is the thin end of the wedge and that if they gain power the Labour Soviet will dispose of the Maximum Leader on health grounds (seeds of which have already been sown in the media and online) and replace him with the sort of hardline Marxist Milne McCluskey and Karie Murphy want in post to carry out their radical agenda. So still for me; none of the above.

EDIT: on reflection I would add one thing I strongly disagree with which is the building of so many new council houses.

Yeah, know what you mean about the manisfesto, while being a little unsure some policies and whether it can really all be paid for.

Do you mind spelling out your deepest fears on your mazist takeover theory? Sene you mention it many times, but what comes next after the takeover you worry about?

Nah, they'll go more moderate. This manifesto is sh!t or bust for the left of the Labour Party. I don't think Labour have much of a chance at this election, the press will continue to spin Tory propaganda and the people are brainwashed sufficiently into thinking that the economy should only really work for the benefit of the top 1% as eventually their vast wealth will trickle down, even though it's failed to do so for decades if not centuries. It's not for us plebs to believe in a more equal society and greater investment in public goods, that's pure fantasy stuff.

Ever more Socialism & taxation, and "people's assemblies" which I believe will be intended to replace our judiciary and try people for thought crime, amongst other things. I also believe it will more or less defenestrate the current drug laws making several drugs actually legal instead of de-facto legal as they currently are. They will also take full control of the internet via British Broadband ending Anon online lives and will use it to persecute individuals for thought crime. Their final ultimate aim is to replace the family with the state and end the following; inheritance, religion, private education, family life.

"full-throttle socialism"? That's mainstream social democracy - at least it would be mainstream if we had any experience of it in the UK outside of Scotland.

The voters have a clear alternative way to go. We're always being told how this is where Labour and Corbyn are going wrong on Brexit by not offering a clear choice. But most importantly these are policies that are intended to have an impact on and improve people's lives. If people don't think that's what they or, more importantly, the country need after a decade of the Tories then fine.

I guess political opposition will be back to trying to jostle for position in the centre while we keep sliding right overall.

I don't really get what you mean on your first para - are you saying Scotland's already run by socialists?

I remember you're keen to move to a more European style of politics and yearn for their leanings too, so genuine question (not debating bollox): which countries already do this sort of stuff? I realise many have publically owned bodies, but has anyone been nationalising stuff recently?

I just worry they're being too ambitious to take the people with them, but then I guess your article talks about that.

Social democrats. Let's be clear here before people go further left into socialism and start talking about Marxism. Although the SNP is a broader church than just social democrats, currently they've settled around social democracy as a response (albeit limited by funding and borrowing limits) to the needs of Scotland.

That social democratic model is very much following the Nordic countries and northwestern Europe - all of which has had significant exposure to social democracy over the years.

Having that balance to capitalism (while of course wanting to use the good things capitalism does for a country) means society has a chance to benefit from and grow alongside the economy. Which in turn strengthens the economy for the future - healthier, happier, better educated people with fewer underlying social issues and tensions make more money and are better placed to adapt to the changing world and its markets.

Simply put, it's a balance of liberty and equality by realising that you need and want both but that they are actually competing against each other. As a country, we've followed the US's lead and have decided that liberty is the way forward. Which only really makes sense for those rich enough, white enough and male enough not to have worry about equality. For them, liberty is a licence to print money as they can hoover up all the opportunities they want.

generally the hard left's response to defeat is that they didn't go far enough. so in 2024 you can look forward to them promising to nationalise the banks, make billionaires live on the minimum wage, and give free sky sports to all. then in 2029 it will be a 10 hour week and limitless free cheese.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show
