If we are talking Labour and Tory....JC certainly came across far more sensible and sane than BJ....though NS does what she does so well.
If we could remove Momentum or Cummings(?) Would that make either party more palatable? Or even remove the incumbent leaders.
Interesting to see what the Tory manifesto looks like.
The other thing that struck me this evening...just how scared people seem to be with a potential left socialist government...yet the same fear doesn't come to the fore on the right. Wonder why that is? |  |

You have to remember that removing a leader needs a replacement.
Whilst the Conservatives have invested a lot in discrediting Corbyn, they would quickly do all they can to discredit his replacement. As unpopular as May was, I am not sure Johnson is naturally any more popular. |  |

You may find it 'radical'; I, and many others, don't - it's simply a wide-ranging social democratic set of policies. I'm aware that politics recently have shifted perception is what is deemed to be 'left-wing' and 'radical' but neither are true of this manifesto. It's merely a redressing of balance. If you find that redressing 'radical' then it shows how far right or neoliberal we've become as a society over the last 30-40 years.
Serious damage has been done, and it's time to address it. The same old won't fix anything. | |

for all what was said on here before the last election most were saying the tories would have at least 100 seat majority. when that didnt happen ,they reverted to if corbyn wasn't the leader labour would have won(sic). so the press needed another myth and started to use the word cult. next thing some posters are using it as if somehow the thought of it . |  |

They’re not costed though, the IFS have already raised doubts, which is similar to the last one which was shown to be deeply flawed

The problem of these types of programme is that the questions are asked by entrenched people. Of course blinkered brexiteers are incensed with the Lib Dems - and of course Tories are embarrassed to see their slime minister waffle.... and of course nobody will threaten their self interest by voting labour if they consider themselves in danger of being worse off personally. Voting in the UK is every bit as tribal as any country in Africa. So no nobody is afffected in any way by these absurd programmes. 1. Corbyn came across marginally better because the momentum audience let him answer the questions.
2 The not so right wing Tories as you like to portray them are certainly not perfect but to the majority of hard working citizens they are a damn site better option.

Corbyn is performing well, he seems to be enjoying it except when asked a really awkward question when he has that " Oh Shet" look on his face. He is the most honest of the lot. For me he has two problems. He doesn't seem to enjoy the prospect of power,he has already admitted he finds the prospect daunting.
His second problem is the majority of voters find Labour's policies unpalatable. |  |

You don’t think nationalising loads of industries and companies, some of which have not previously been in State hands isn’t left wing? While the manifesto has many things to applaud for the Centrist can’t you see that those nationalisation policies represent too bigger shift to the left for many, especially those for those that have previously experienced the waste and inefficiencies they breed. They are being pursued for dogmatic political ideals when the same ends could be met with greater regulation and massively less waste of tax payer funds. | | | |

It's interesting that the Labour manifesto actually includes an awful lot of elements that the majority of us would agree with and are merely sensible things to implement. Many elements are not overtly radical or socialist.
There most definitely are things in there, such as bring things back into state control that are, no doubt about it.
We can't compare against the Tory manifesto yet but it will be interesting to.
The Tories have def moved right and Labour have def moved left...that's not exactly difficult to see. My point was that there appears a fear of a left socialist government but that same fear doesn't appear on the right leaning Tories. Maybe the Tories haven't moved as right as it appears....maybe people are more right leaning than before? Maybe you are right and the Tory approach appeals to more.
Regardless...here is the thing. Our current approach isn't working.
Social mobility going backwards
Fewer and fewer people control the majority of wealth
Chronic under funding in the NHS
Social care is utterly bereft of funding, support and attention
Education and other services hugely under resourced
Trickle down economics isn't working
All of the above needs addressing...very interested to see what the Tories approach will be. BJ kept saying to look at his record as Mayor of London...fine but he is now PM...different ball game. | |
