AJ V Ruiz II 21:14 - Dec 7 with 1056 viewsHerbivore

Anyone watching? Thought AJ looked nervous during the ring walk but hard to read too much into that. Stylistically, Ruiz is a bad match up for him, really tough one to call.

I am, funnily enough - well, not watching but listening on R5l as unwilling to pay £25.

Normally dislike boxing, but got interested in this re-match owing to the recent docu "One night" on BBC iPlayer that I posted a few days ago. It looked at Ruiz in particular, esp his background, & was quite inspiring as you'd expect, given the focus on the underdog.

They also both came across as really nice guys. Insights from former champs were also v. interesting.

Well ahead on points and could win at any moment if he manages to land a few combos.

Unfortunately I also get the impression that Ruiz could stop it if AJ gets stuck inside.

Ruiz could never close the distance sufficiently to his advantage, and AJ did exactly as he should have done by keeping his range. Good performance by him. Also looks a lot better coming in lighter, less of the muscle nonsense. No idea what Ruiz was planning by coming in that much heavier.

Undercard all right too, despite the first couple being too short. Hunter-Povetkin was really good, pleased for Hunter. Dill still needs to gain a bit of sharpness and lose some timber, but happy for him too :)

Agree on all your points. You have to wonder most/99% of boxers have to be so disciplined in whar they do and how they train you'd think 2 fighters tonight (whyte and ruiz) both too heavy. How leading up when all your day job is to train and spar do you get that out of shape.

Ruiz for his size is s freak of a boxer - just think hiw good he could be 2+ stones lighter.

Given the strife Whyte has been through the last few months, more than happy to give him a nod here. Know what you're saying but still... Hopefully he'll take a break over New Year and come back a better man in Jan/Feb. But WBC situation is awful for him. Barstewards.

Don't think anyone can dislike Ruiz- lovely bloke and decent fighter. Hope he has more to come given another serious opponent/camp.

Also good to see Hopey Price as a float on such a prominent card :) Another one slightly spoilt with rabbit punching accusations... And must say Molina was v disappointing for such a decorated fighter tonight too. Not what we wanted to see at all.
