Cannot compete indeed. Pretty ridiculous thing to say given the squad they have, the money they have and can spend and the youth players they don't promote (Foden, Sancho etc).
Just look at Leicester to see what a nonsense it is.
Was quite funny seeing a pacey and young Man Utd forward line absolutely destroy them for the first half on Sunday though.

Rogers is a very talented manager, so too is Pep. It is much easier to be in the position of the over achieving team though. Man City have really been quite poor this season by their standards, and I think they will kick themselves for letting Liverpool sign VVD when they knew full well they needed to prep for Kompany's exit. | |

I think he's sending a message to those above him for allowing Man Utd to outbid them for Maguire in the summer, and telling them if they want to win big competitions they'll need to spend whatever it takes to get a new centre back in.
They also have the issue they're at their maximum number of non home-grown players, so either sign a home-grown player (they've been linked to Ake today) or sell Otamendi which Pep may or may not want to do. |  |
