I don’t think it’s that cut and dry anymore. My parent’s generation owned their own home and had done for 12 years by my age. The norm isn’t the norm anymore. That’s why “ok boomer” took off as a meme.

Did you just compare me stating the clear age divide in voting intention with being an Anti-Semite? Jesus wept.

Would be interesting to see the turnout by age band. My guess is that despite the weather, and the ease of postal voting, the older you are the more likely you are to make the effort to vote. Add millennials to the list.

And as I said, when that generation grow up with less opportunities and assets than the generations before that pattern will be impacted. The post-war boomer generation was one of the most prosperous in youth and has closed the door with age.

It’s an interesting hypothesis, but I am not sure waiting 20 years and hoping that lack of opportunity turns people to support you is the most proactive or optimistic of strategies for the Labour Party. With proper leadership I think they can still do very well next time. Then again, with proper leadership they should have done very well this time.

My worry as the oldies die out and they pass on their houses to the kids they will become Tory's then, oh what troubling times we live in.

I remember how fast Libby’s political outlook shifted the moment he became a home owner. I wonder how he voted this election. With compassion I’d hope.

What's happened to Libby? He is one of the good ones, like yourself Callis. Argumentative maybe, but decent nonetheless.

I bought a house nearly 5 years ago and I think that Labour aren't really left-wing enough. Becoming a home owner is no excuse for abandoning your principles.

Yeah. I think he came on shortly after the baby was born, but under a different name. Anyways, hopefully it’s a merry Christmas in the Libby household with the baby.

THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT on 10:55 - Dec 14 with 962 views | WeWereZombies | Interesting maps but I think you mean demographic, not economic. As a straight extrapolation I guess it is possible but there may be externalaties, shock factors that impact the outcome. Perhaps some Green needs to be introduced by whatever organisation is responsible?

Even if a lot of young people end up turning Tory, that is still a huge base that would need to be lost for the country to not be broadly Labour in 20 years in the same way it's broadly Tory today.

I'm an 80s child and bought my 1st home at 23. Every generation has people in it that want to do things early and others that don't and then moan about it

There’s a correlation, but I’m not sure about causation. It’d be a bit patronising to people in their late 40s to say they haven’t experienced the world. Many people I know had there biggest life experiences and changes younger than that. It’s something far more complicated, and I suspect retreating into a smaller world view and fear of risk/change could also be playing a part somewhere.
