The role of a CM 10:41 - Dec 14 with 1712 views | Bluefish | Read loads from people saying Downes in the successor to Skuse and not Dozzell. People saying Downes should sit and Dozzell have a free role further up the pitch, it amazes me what some people watch. Downes is a box to box midfielder, he can do a little bit of everything. Andre is completely different, he passing intelligence for far above anything else that we have but he is not box to box and he is not a CAM. A CAM is all about little movements and quick touches because of how tight it is in that pocket surrounded by the opposition defence, CDM and midfielders. Dozzell wants to have the open space protected by our midfield and our defence against their less defensive players so that he can find killer passes opposed to quick passes. Dozzell is a pirlo type player not a David Silva or a Countinho. Some players like to play facing the goal with distance ahead of them, other players like to play in tight areas and some like to play back to the goal. You can't just swap that around and get the best out of players. When I played the game i played for years at wide right even though I lacked real pace because I could pick a pass and I like the game in front of me. I could play CM and often did but I was often crowded out and didnt get the time on the ball. I moved to forward and adapted to play back to goal but again it didnt get the best from me. Eventually my team went 532 which allowed me to drop deeper and play a free role facing the goal. [Post edited 14 Dec 2019 10:45]

The role of a CM on 10:44 - Dec 14 with 1410 views | Mullet | Although by the time Pirlo was AD's age he had played as a 10 a bit and was moved back. Had he not been robbed of that season maybe he'd have had that development too. But it seems odd as you say in that regard.

Andre is quite lucky that the England youth set up and the move to U23s instead of reserves has allowed him to move to that role earlier in life or he would have been stuck up there too. I added in the edit about where I played and I started adult football very young so played RM even though it wasn't a natural position because it was the only place where I could have the time to create. We are a poor family that has been gifted a jewel but don't have a ring or a chain to keep it in so can't use it and can't afford for a jeweller to bespoke something. We should probably sell it but it has sentimental value and could also be worth a fortune one day

The role of a CM on 11:18 - Dec 14 with 1340 views | BigManBlue | Agree with this. How do we get the best out of Andre then? Have him sitting deep with two tough box to box midfielders (Downes and... Someone?) in front of him to help out with defensive duties?

The role of a CM on 11:21 - Dec 14 with 1330 views | Dubtractor | Yep. Dozzell is a playmaker, he needs the game in front of him to pick passes. Downes is the most complete midfielder we have and we look a far lesser team without him - a box to box player as you say. Midfield is a bloody difficult position to play and be good at, you need to be aware of the whole game around you, 360 vision and all that. Having a player like Downes on our books is a real gift.

Downes Dozzell and Nolan looks to have the right balance for me.
The role of a CM on 11:40 - Dec 14 with 1292 views | Swansea_Blue | It’s pretty obvious isn’t it. You play Downes in a 2, alongside someone who sits (Skuse) and then he can use his allround game and has licence to get forward (late runs into the box supporting the number 10. You needs 4231 for that, but we don’t have the wingers.

So no room for Dozzell? Or have I misread you?

In League One, I would play Downes and Nolan, plus an A. N. Other depending on the opposition and the fitness and form of other midfielders. If we return to the Championship, the fitness and form of Huws and Bishop will be very important factors. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
The role of a CM on 12:46 - Dec 14 with 1197 views | Keaneish | Downes is the most natural replacement we have for Skuse but he’s more versatile as you say. It would be a horrendous decision to make Downes simply a ball winner or anchorman, he’s got much to his game. Some of his driving runs have been great to watch - he’s turning into a real leader.

So not a natural replacement then

Ahead of him number 10. Or if you play the 2 side by side, Flynn has to sit. We’re quite lucky to have these players, I don’t think we’re using them right though. In a decent footballing team that builds from the back and is fairly possession- based they’d both shine.

Flynn is not a sitting player and Dozzell is not a 10

The role of a CM on 13:08 - Dec 14 with 1150 views | Herbivore | I'm surprised Nolan is amongst so many first choice midfields. He started well when coming back from injury but I think he's looked poor of late, albeit I've not seen us away from home where maybe he's played better.

Coincidentally, I used to play left wing. Anyone else play in a position that reflects their political viewpoint?

He gives us a high press and tempo. He was excellent at cov

Fair enough, I've not seen him play away. At home he's not done much. He's busy but his use of the ball is not the best at the minute.
