1980s goal klaxon 17:35 - Dec 16 with 3329 viewshector_clifford

Does anybody know who did this each time we scored a goal, and if it was some kind of car horn or klaxon.
I thought it might be a nice bit of nostalgia to bring it back again.

Please feel free to bring back the 1980s again, but this time minus SBR leaving. Let Cloughie have the England job!

I think you'll find that 'Cloughie' suffered the same problem as Big Sam. One pf getting his fingers caught in the till.

He was known as The Phantom Bugler.

Definite info.

It was a disabled lad who drove one of the old invalid light blue cars. He couldn't cheer or shout loud so used a horn to display his delight when Johnny Wark scored another cracker.

I have no idea what became of him or if he is still around today. I loved hearing that sound when I was a kid when Town scored.

Da da da dah, da da da dah, da, da da da da da dah!

That's brilliant! I didn't know that.

Your post also made me think of Tommy Tomlin. Does he still go? Used to go all over the country watching Town in his chair. Proper fan.

I remember Tom Tomalin. Town fanatic. The day after we won the play-off final we were hanging around near the town hall and Jermaine Wright beckoned him through the crowds to join the players inside the building they were in. Great moment.

I haven't seen Tom in a long time.

I knew Tom quite well back in the day. I found this article about his mother’s memoir in which he is mentioned.

That article says Tom is 47 now. A year older than me. That surprises me as I'm sure he was older than that as I definitely remember reading about him travelling on his own on the train watching the late Robson years which would have made him around 9, 10 years old.

Edit. Noticed the article is two years old, but even so, a chap with those disabilities travelling alone at such a young age is remarkable.

I see Tom several times a season after evening home games when we come out of Beatties.

I usually give him a push in his wheelchair up to the station.

I'm 51 and remember seeing Tom at many matches, home and away, in the late 80's / early 90's. Yes, fair play to him to have been so independent at such a young age. Does anyone know why he followed the Town? I seem to recall that he won supporter of the year once, as well.

I remember reading once in an old programme that he was put in goal when he was at school and one of his school mates said he was Ipswich. And he therefore became an Ipswich fan. He's an amazing man.

I pushed Tom up to the Madejski Stadium a few years ago, took him to the lift which then broke down so I missed kick-off.
