no better summing up of the Marcus Evans era on 22:42 - Dec 17 by Reuser_is_God
Why bother scouting anybody when your transfer budget is £0?
So you’ve an idea of what’s out there for the little money we have, and can say ‘no’ when some chump wants to blow a couple of million & the whole budget on Nolan & Toto?
It’s been ME’s Achilles heel since the start. There doesn’t seem to be a system in place that mitigates against managers going rogue and buying crap. He got his fingers burnt with Keane & Hurst and a lesser extent Jewell. And in all cases it cost us on the pitch too. He got lucky with Mick, but it’s a gamble. The manager shouldn’t be given free rein imo. Not today when they don’t hang around for long.

But shouldn’t the owner trust the manager with the actual decision of who he wasn’t in his team?
Just like an office manager who appoints their staff aren’t they the best person equipped to decide with a certain player fits into their intended system? The problem has been that ME hasn’t appointed a manager who has recruited extremely well.
