The big mistake was sticking with virtually the same squad as last season. 17:02 - Dec 29 with 882 viewsTrequartista

Last season we didn't just finish bottom, we were miles below the standard of Championship football. So although the standard of League One is lower, is not that low that we would suddenly walk this league. If Lambert got one thing right it is that the early results moved expectations to high. It now seems those string of 1-0 away wins were a bit streaky putting us in a false position.

There should have been a big clearout in the summer, and the mistake of not doing this is now becoming apparent. A mistake equally as big as Hurst totally underestimating the strength of the Championship with his signings. Lambert will pay the price with losss of his job, if not now, then fairly soon.

A few seasons ago Bolton were relegated to League 1, lost their 'best' players, had a transfer embargo all season and still finished 2nd

That hits the nail on the head. Div. One is a poor league and any compatent TEAM should be able to get promoted out. The real problem is that while we have a good squad, we have a poor team. Paul has made this problem worse by the ridiculous rotation ( what team rotates its goalkeepers?). If anything we have too big a squad and really need to cull unnecessary and bad players. We need to target obvious weak areas to strengthen and stop getting every available midfielder. This really should be a treated as a preseason for promotion to the Championship and not a rudderless exercise in frustration that it has become. It is becoming clear that Paul is incapable of achieving this ambition.

It's not the players, it's the absence of a team and a patern of play.

Sure, some players aren't world-beaters at this level but we just don't combine well at all around the pitch.

It’s not the same side as last season, since then we’ve lost our highest appearing goalkeeper, second and third highest appearing defenders, our highest appearing midfielder and our third and fourth highest appearing forwards (whilst our second highest hasn’t played a game)

Highlighting crass stupidity since sometime around 2010

Yeah it's always more than one aspect in these situations, can't disagree with that, but these players aren't good enough. Or more accurately, they've all proven that they are good enough on their day, but just crumble when the team is not doing well.

Yes i take that point, the highest earners couldn't stay, but 1 new signing and 2 loans started today.

Poo defenders last season and no one new this season means same poo defence.
Lambert couldn’t have predicted KvY was going to get injured but it’s typical of us in general.
No one has replaced Berra or Webster or come close to it. Infact no one replaced Knudsen either.

Chambers liability as centre back, hence through most of Micks tenure he was as right back which infairness is where I would put him back again until we have cover.

No right back for injured kvy, no left back either.

We were riding on confidence earlier on in season whilst playing crap, now our confidence is shot and teams realise how bad we are as a team.

I would rub my hands with glee at the thought of lining up against our powder puff, weak back line.

Unless lambert gets a left, right and maybe centre back he may as well pack his bags as things won’t change with the crap we have.
