Did anyone else pick up on this? 08:59 - Dec 30 with 1670 viewstractorboy1978

“Me and the staff we try and help them the best that we can. People think the game is about managers. It’s not about managers, the game’s about players and supporters and that’s what people want to see".

What a bizarre quote. Almost as bizarre as his quote earlier in the season about players being more important than tactics and formations.

It’s all laughable but very annoying looks like the club is running on empty.

Indeed. Good spot.

It should be “The staff and I try to...”

It's not bizarre at all, it's just rightly pointing out that "manager in/manager out" is far from being the extent of everything both here and elsewhere.

It shouldn’t be about the players. It is the team that matters.

The manager should, at this point in the season, know exactly what he wants from a settled team.

He doesn’t appear to know what he wants.

Picking apart press conference utterings to make another dig at the manager takes me back to the days of being a mid table championship team. Twtd.

But think of all the new grounds that people have been able to tick off this season.

At this rate we should all buy season tickets for Lincoln.

At this rate there will be a hell of a lot less people buying season tickets for ITFC next season.

Given the utter cliche-ridden vacuity of most things he says the TWTD pastime of 'overanalyse the presser' is even more pointless than usual.

Clearly. But of course it is about managers too. As a player I would read that and think 'here is a bloke that wants to take no responsibility'.

I think the point is more that the manager should be more active in it. Rather than "trying to help them", the manager should be deciding on tactics, ensuring the players understand their role and how it fits into the tactics and motivating and deciding on how best to implement the tactics.

It is like it is going wrong and he wants to deflect the blame to the players. Most of where it is going wrong is players not seeming to know or be able to carry out their roles and players not building partnerships and understanding on the pitch. That doesn't come from "helping" the players, that comes from leading and guiding the players.

While I could imagine a similar quote coming from Sir Bobby, I think the context would be entirely different. I think every player would know exactly what was being asked of them. I wonder if every player currently does.
