It will be a localised thing regarding the Middle East and more innocent people will die in their thousands.
We will be fine, as will the US mainland.
That's not to say there will not be a heightened terror threat at home. It's possibly safe to say that will be as read.

Iran have been doing military drills with Russia and China.
I doubt Russia will want to get involved, at least militarily. They don't sell offensive weapons to the Iranian. Hopefully Putin will calm them down and no troops have died.

Calls for restraint from Europe and maybe Israel and the Sauds will consider a measured response for a change.
Maybe Iranians will call against the RG at home to rein it in and take to the streets. The divisive nature of their population will need to be addressed one day. Maybe this will be their time.
Potentially interesting times ahead, but worryingly troublesome for those on the doorstep. Things need, indeed must, change there at some point, and it won't happen peacefully. [Post edited 8 Jan 2020 1:51]

Russia aren't going to get involved in a war with the US, it's a no win for them. If they didn't want to do it at the height of their power they definitely aren't going to do it now.
Seems Trump thinks it's a fair response, bases warned in advance and people able to evacuate.
