This is interesting from Monbiot 09:48 - Jan 8 with 273 viewsStokieBlue

He's not usually one to push technological fixes to the environmental and food issues we face but he's gone all in with this one:

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/jan/08/lab-grown-food-destroy-far

Sounds very interesting and if it's anything like he's saying then very promising as well. Some factoids:

- the bacteria can be modified for meat, milk eggs etc
- at least 10x more efficient than photosynthesis
- 20,000x more land efficient
- 10 times cheaper than animal protein by 2035

It sounds amazing if it can be realised and he is claiming it will end the argument on plant vs meat diets as we won't be eating either.

Seems quite a bold prediction and I think many might not be too keen given the often irrational distrust of science many people have but if it can work it sounds brilliant and would allow most farmland to be rewilded.

He does also say that people need to shift to a more plant based diet until the technology is matured and I think that is something many people are doing anyway.
