Children and families in poverty, millions suffering at the hands of an NHS that can't cope, all of the troubles in the world, utter devastation in Australia.

And we are raising half a million quid so Big Ben can go bong for a few seconds. Ridiculous.

Not surprising to see Boris heavily involved.

If you feel that dead against it, don't give anything and give some money to a charity instead?

Rather missing the point.

We have a PM championing a cause so utterly pathetic. It’s a waste of money. I get that people can refuse to contribute but the point is that he could be using his profile to champion things that actually matter.

Like helping some of the causes that only exist because of Tory government.

In all fairness, this whole tragic episode is the result of something that was the cause of a Tory government.

On January the 31st at 11pm we could quite possibly be signalling our departure from Europe by striking a broken bell financed through crowdfunding. How appropriate.

Why can’t we just go full France and break the country to stop the Government being sh1ts?

Oh wait, we’re actively cheering as a nation as they destroy everything because we’re spineless brainwashed peasants being told what to do against our best interests by entitled rich folk and the press who will do anything to sit on a bigger pile of money.

"Not surprising to see Boris heavily involved"

and not unsurprising to see it is not going to happen - perhaps we might get a Garden Bridge instead, or even get to use those water cannons, see the bulldozer he was going to lie down in front of, the ditch he was going to die in or the failing Routemaster buses

but say the gormless, he is bound to get it right one day...maybe ?

Bread and circuses.

Expect more of the same.

As usual, other people will pick up the pieces. Or at least attempt to.

’Suffering at the hands ...’ makes it sound like it’s the NHS fault to me. That’s all.

NHS isn’t perfect and don’t help themselves with unions that resist change, but most staff go above and beyond in helping people, and definantely not to cause more suffering.

You obviously forgot to read the end of the sentence in that case: "an NHS that can't cope".

The not being able to cope bit is due to Tory cuts. Hope that helps.

Interesting that you bring unions into it though. Did you back the junior doctors?

No one has suggested once that the NHS [personnel] is to blame for anything.

You have decided that.

Now, try again, but with a little more humility.

I was referred to the Pain Clinic in 2015 by the West Suffolk Hospital.

I was referred again in 2016 by my GP.

I was referred again in 2017 by Ipswich hospital.

I finally got my first appointment in 2018.

Consider that for a moment please.

When people say the NHS, they are not talking about good old Florence in some tent on a muddy battlefield somewhere.

We are talking about a national health institution.

Edit: Unions Vic? Seriously? ffs, what is the point?

**Edit: As others have pointed out; under-resourced.

Best thing to do here is to create a 'hostile environment' so to deter potential employees. That will help.
