Labour would be crazy not to elect Lisa Nandy as their leader 12:49 - Jan 16 with 12097 viewsGlasgowBlue

Discuss.

For me she ticks all of the right boxes to cover all wings of the party.

Not Blairite whilst but soft left so no Corbyn connection.

No tolerance of antisemitism in the Labour Party whilst at the same time is the Chair of Labour Friends of Palestine.

Good with the media. Actually got the better of Andrew Neil last night.

Very honest. Would eat Boris for dinner at PMQ’s.

Oh and she could be the first female elected as Labour leader.

Compares Scotland to Catalonia not her best move on the Neil show.

I would agree she was strong on there but felt she was looking for every opportunity to portray herself as a strong leader by biting back and at times I don't think Neil was doing much wrong.

Poll: Mick in or out? (not a dig at Mick just want to see the overall opinion on here)

They need to get that other bint in, the one that likes all the Corbyn policies.

Hopefully Labour will get it right this time.

The problem was Corbynistas weren't interested in being the government for JC and his fellow travellers McCluskey, McDonnell and momentum their primary goal was the hard left seizing control of Labour, being the government was an afterthought. It was only May's badly run 2017 campaign when the possibility of being the government entered their heads.
Corbynista energy was put into winning seats on Labour's NEC rather than seats in paraliament. That meant they ducked the decisions required for office; rooting out anti-Semitism; responding forcefully to Putin's poisoning on British soil rather than pandering to crack-pot anti-American groups. Plus confronting the broader left with the hard lesson that the taxpayer won't entrust their money to someone who cannot add up, ie its all fully costed and then 24 hours later oh but now we'll pay back the £billions to the WASPI women but we dont know how or where it's coming from.

Labour needs to learn, they're talking about having a leader from the north because that will win back the northern voters completely ignoring those seats were lost to Bojo an etonian from London.
They need to learn the public dont care where you come from, it's what you offer.

Note; if you think she'll eat Boris at PMQ you're deluded.

She was really good last night, good on both detail and big picture and really impressive generally and even managed to get the better of AN on a couple of occasions.

Liked the look of her, and she has laid down the gauntlet to others to let Neil try and have a go at them.

She is a down to earth, sensible MP and actually a real human being.

So of course Momentum will ensure she doesn't...

I am not sure you are quite in step with the way politics is done.

It doesn’t really matter what the next leader is like, what matters is what the media and others will spin about the next leader.

I doubt the majority of the electorate actually watches PMQs. Maybe some will be aware of what is reported about PMQs.

Very honest? Does it matter when people try and excuse or interpret lies told by Boris.

Her father is an actual communist so I'm not sure that would go down to well with the right wing press.

I do believe she is the best candidate though.

Very honest?

Surely that disqualifies her from her position as an MP, let alone leader of a party in sharp and possibly irreversible decline?

Personally I think the only credible candidate is Kier Starmer. He may be dull as dishwater but he has a bit of substance - and can repeat the mantra 'Told you so' as everything Brexit-related unravels over the next 5 years - by which time he will be seen as a savant that the country needs to reverse 15 years of shattering division and decline.

Kier Starmer is also male, pale and stale.

With 4 women and one man in the contest surely they aren’t going to elect the man once again?

"It doesn’t really matter what the next leader is like, what matters is what the media and others will spin about the next leader."

Indeed. That's why I think Starmer is the most viable choice. He looks and sounds like the status quo plus he's got the sort of non-political background that makes the "red under the bed" nonsense hard to use.

He's just not as sticky when it comes to the tried and tested smear tactics. Then I think it'll be easier for him to make the radical changes that he suggests are still desired and necessary.

I was impressed by Jess Phillips on that berk Marr’s programme the other day. Very pragmatic and would certainly challenge Boris. Sadly she is no Corbynista so I doubt they’ll be sensible enough to go for. It looks like millionaire Sir Kier or Corbyn clone Long-Bailey.

Depends what the membership are looking for in a leader.

If they are clinging to the fantasy that Workington Man and Mr Sendthemhome from Stoke will once again vote Labour, then a woman is not the way to go, she should be in the kitchen after all (as long as she has finished the cleaning).

Five years of 'I told you so' will work rather nicely - but given the last response of 43% of the electorate to 10 years of crushing austerity, rising crime, dysfunctional NHS, collapsing infrastructure - and the impending break up of the country.... I am not sure its that easy a fix.

Ditto becoming neutered centrist lapdogs to gain approval from an awful UK media.

It's Catch 22 unless you spend a few pre-election years hammering home the need for an alternative and not letting the disillusioned and disenfranchised get hijacked by right-wing populist nonsense.

Lib Dems had a choice between the young up and coming woman, or the "male, pale and stale". For my money they picked the wrong one.

“ neutered centrist lapdogs”

I was stupid enough to vote against Blair for purely tribal reasons through the period he was Labour leader but you’d have to be more than tribal not to acknowledge things such as the Human Rights Act, the National Minimum Wage, Sure Start programme, record spending in the NHS & Tax Credits.

The question you have to ask yourself is who did more for the most vulnerable and needy in this country? Centrist Blair or pure uncompromising socialist Corbyn?
