My neck is absolutely f**ked 10:50 - Jan 20 with 2283 viewsBiGDonnie

Done something to it whilst finishing my push ups on Sunday morning. Can only turn my head ever so slightly either side.

Any ideas on what I can do to help? I'm obviously up to my eyeballs in Ibuprofen already...

I've had neck muscle injuries before and they're horrible but keep on the ibuprofen, get some heat on and try to keep it moving and it should start to improve in a day or two.

I’ve had similar but eventually realised it came from lower down, between the shoulder blades, just off the spine to the side it hurts. Try a bit of gel there too?

LOL not many! I've only been in the gym since November, but I've been going 5 times a week, PT once a week and much better eating. Dropped two trouser sizes and a shirt size.

I struggle getting to 25.

Herbie's given you good advice.

I'd also add: Try doing some rowing motion with a bit of resistance. I.e. a rowing machine if one is around or just leaning back from a banister or fence and pulling yourself upright.

Unless balanced with the opposite motion for the shoulder muscles at the back, that forward press up motion is a bit unnatural, putting the shoulders out of alignment and perhaps putting pressure on a nerve. On top of which, rowing is very good for releasing any tension in the neck and shoulders.

But yeah, definitely get it checked out by a professional if it doesn't clear up quickly. Good luck!

I had similar last year and ended up going to a physio after a few days and had acupuncture which worked an absolute dream.

I would recommend that if it hasn’t cleared up soon.

Any cryo places near to you? Fella at work had it done for a similar thing he did to back while at the gym. Took less than 15 minutes and was like a spring chicken the next day. Not the cheapest option though I guess... and no idea whether you can get it for your neck either!

Ice will help immediately after an injury to reduce inflammation but heat is better for muscle injuries as it makes movement easier whilst also helping with pain.

apologies, meant to reply to the people saying heat - you want ice on it periodically for a good few days after initial injury. Heat should only be later, when you can still 'feel' the injury but you've got pretty much all movement back.

Just out of interest, do Town have a Physio clinic where you can go & get treated by the club physio staff? I used to use a guy at Harlequins Rugby, he was the club chief physio but he worked on his own clients two days a week in the evenings. He was absolutely brilliant.
