What do people recommend for free/cheap internet security? Thanks...

I usually speak to people like Dan on this stuff as it's his bag.

Mind you he might not want me volunteering him.

But as he and others rightly point out modern Windows comes with its own Defender anyway, but I like the tried and trusted [free] combination of Avast and Malwarbytes.

For regular use you can't go too far wrong with those two together. They are compatible and cause no conflict.

A password manager also comes strongly recommended. I use Avast's but I'm sure someone in the know may suggest better ones.

Edit: He must have seen the bat signal.

What sort of security are we talking? Privacy, protection from viruses?

For the former I can recommend some VPNs, for the latter it depends on your operating system, but these days you very rarely need a dedicated virus scanning solution. Usually your operating system has it covered.

Windows 10.

Nothing else required as all the security you need built in.

With defender, you're unlikely to need anything else unless you actually need to remove one that has got past it. Usually by that point, depending on the severity, you would just be better off reverting either reverting to a backup or doing a clean install.

Would recommend using a backup solution if you don't have one set up, especially if you're storing anything of importance on the PC.

You could use Malwarebytes to complement Defender.

Pornhub and Xvideos are probably your best odds on avoiding getting a virus.

Neither did I and I've already paid for McAfee for my daughters laptop.

Only if you're watching alone of course.

If you keep your Windows updates up to date then yes.

Never paid for or used any free third party anti virus with nil issues to date.
